Company description American Provisions is an award-winning specialty market that specializes in cheese, meat, natural wine, craft beer, gourmet groceries and sandwiches. We carry products from people who are dedicated to supporting their local communities and using methods that respect the environment at the source of their products. We are proud to be a part of a thriving community, which in turn supports our work with great enthusiasm, adventurous palates, and awesome vibes. Job description

Being Assistant General Manager at American Provisions means setting the tone for the experience of both the customer and the employees. This person will model what customer service looks like, and will help drive the mood and culture for the whole space. Managers are visible on the floor, and have relationships with customers, vendors and delivery drivers alike. This person will also be responsible for administrative duties related to buying, correspondence, etc. The AGM is the last line of defense for our floor team: if your staff needs you, you're there. Daily, our AGM is a decision maker who acts on behalf of the business in alignment with his/her GM.

This person will be able to both work with and supervise a team. We want someone who is proficient and efficient at every task s/he is asking the staff to perform. We also, however, expect this person to see the bigger picture, and to operate behind the scenes.

The Asst. General Manager is responsible for co-leading staff training with the GM, to work with everyone to learn the AP way and to encourage individual interests and learning styles.

This person is also an experienced wine buyer or server, having a strong foundation of wine knowledge to ease quickly into buying responsibilities within our business. You will work with our shop owner to oversee our natural wine program, and your responsibilities will include buying, merchandising, staff education and public events.

We want badass, creative, thoughtful human beings to work for us, and when they work for us, we want them to grow with us. We want to collect amazing people and the only way to do that is by allowing them to learn, develop and grow once they are here. This takes encouragement and the supportive challenging of this Manager, in conjunction with the General Manager. Our ideal candidate will be able to address any disciplinary issues in a straightforward respectful manner and operate transparently w/ clear expectation, reporting directly to the GM with any business or staffing concerns/reflections.

The Asst. General Manager will report directly to our General Manager. They will meet weekly to review staff, cost of goods, and general shop updates. This relationship will help to drive and maintain the awesome culture of creativity and dedicated work we rock here at AP!

Please note that we are hiring AGMs for both our current Southie location and our upcoming Dorchester location.
