Job description

The Farmers Market Program Associate is part of the Washington State Farmers Market Association’s (“WSFMA”) Program Team that supports its 110 member farmers markets to realize their goals as vibrant economic and community assets. Founded in 1979, the WSFMA is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that works statewide, primarily through member services, training and education (including an annual conference), and advocacy. The WSFMA currently has a small staff with an office at Pike Place Market in Seattle and a remote office in Ellensburg, WA. A remote position in Washington State may be considered for strong candidates.

As a critical member of a lean nonprofit team, the Farmers Market Program Associate supports organizational and programmatic activities of the WSFMA with a focus on promotions that increase vendor sales, building farmers market organizational capacity, and sustainability. This position is currently funded primarily by a multi-year grant from the USDA Farmers Market Promotion Program (FMPP) Education work.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES focus on assisting with WSFMA program activities that support member market organizations and grow farmers markets sales.
  1. Help to research, organize, and provide technical support to member farmers markets via phone, email, website, webinars, and workshops.
  2. Provide administrative support to the Food Access Coordinator and ten Regional Leads.
  3. Provide organizational support to a new Market Advisory Team and support the launch and delivery of a statewide marketing campaign.
  4. Support the information management of farmers market data, data collection, and reporting.
  5. Content support and updates to all WSFMA communication tools, including the website and social media.
  6. Other duties as assigned.
The Program Associate will also support the organizational growth and development of the WSFMA.

This includes helping with office and financial management, organizational planning, training, developing and following internal controls, support with annual membership and other member services, fundraising, and board support.

SHARED DUTIES for entire WSFMA Program Team.
  • Support for the annual conference as well as ongoing training, education, and sharing resources with farmers market organizers, including manager, staff, board, volunteers, and vendors.
  • Support WSFMA communications, including website, electronic and print materials, for both internal audiences, member farmers markets, and external partners and public.
  • Effectively, efficiently, and responsibly manage organizational and other relevant WSFMA information.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
  • Experience working with Washington State farmers markets, direct marketing, community-based organizations, and/or related work.
  • Must be able both to work effectively as member of team and independently as a self-starter comfortable working without direct supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing, emailing, and participating in conference calls.
  • Highly organized, with excellent information management skills, and able to juggle multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer services skills.
  • Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, DropBox, Zoom, and WordPress.
  • Graphic design, proficient in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign a plus.
  • Experience using QuickBooks.
  • Education in marketing, small business development, accounting, community development, nonprofit management, corporate responsibility, or related disciplines.
