The Cooking Matters Massachusetts (CMMA) Community Engagement Associate works closely with the Director and regional managers to implement and support all aspects of the program in accordance with state and national goals and policies.  The Community Engagement Associate’s responsibilities include implementing a comprehensive plan for volunteer engagement, communication, training, and retention across the state, coordinating direct service programming, and managing community partners.
 

  • Lead volunteer recruitment efforts, including maintaining online postings, representing Cooking Matters at community events, and building relationships with area organizations, associations, education institutions, and corporations to engage individual volunteers.
  • Lead volunteer training efforts, including monthly new volunteer trainings and working with members of MA team to assess needs and identify learning opportunities and training solutions that strengthen the effectiveness of staff, volunteers, partners, and CMMA programs.
  • Manage the volunteer communication process including the team Outlook mailbox, monthly volunteer emails, and quarterly stakeholder newsletters.
  • Monitor volunteer engagement by using internal tracking program and work toward annual volunteer engagement goals and manage all volunteer appreciation efforts.
  • Support staff in volunteer management by offering periodic trainings that support the volunteer engagement plan.
  • Coordinate high quality courses and tours statewide: serve as the liaison with community partners, maintain regular communication with volunteer team, and address unexpected programmatic challenges as they arise, elevating as necessary.
  • Identify community partners within a designated region of the state that would be appropriate course and tour partners and assess their interest in the program and conduct ongoing assessment of existing partners to ensure programming meets quality standards and adheres to funding and priority audience goals.
  • Schedule 50-75 grocery store tours annually in compliance with SNAP-ed goals by building and maintaining a network of community partners, assessing staff capacity and assigning staff to implement tours according to guidelines provided.
  • Determine needs for individual Cooking Matters program and complete preparations, including gathering equipment, supplies, and groceries that adhere to the budget, and transport supplies.
  • Coach volunteer instructors on use of training materials and curricula to communicate key messages in ways that are relevant and applicable to the lives of program participants, including regular constructive feedback.
  • As needed, fill the culinary or nutrition instructor role.
  • Identify and participate in opportunities to recruit and train volunteers. Build relationships with chefs, dietitians, and nutritionists to maintain enough trained instructors to reach course goals. Provide recognition to volunteers for their efforts.
  • Complete all program and financial reporting in a timely and accurate fashion.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in volunteer management, community development, and/or customer service in a professional capacity.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to work with people from a variety of identity groups and backgrounds, including professional chefs, social service providers, volunteers and participants.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to providing a high standard of service and hospitality to others.
  • Experienced coursework and/or credentials in Culinary or Nutrition/Dietetics preferred.
  • Commitment to quality and desire for continuous improvement.
  • Quick problem-solving skills and flexibility to do what’s needed.
  • Ability to balance a variety of tasks simultaneously.
  • Previous experience as a volunteer or working with volunteers.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite and SalesForce, as well as the ability to quickly learn new software programs and online platforms.
  • Fluency in spoken and written Spanish preferred, but not required.
  • Driver's license and car required.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds.
  • Good sense of humor, team spirit, and a strong commitment to the mission.
