Job Description

Named a Fast Track 100 Company by the Sunday Times and one of Europe’s Fastest Growing companies by the Financial Times, having successfully launched in New York in 2017, we’ll soon open our offices in California, and we are looking for a Fresh Produce Buyer (Natoora’s Produce Procurement Specialist) based in Los Angeles. The US market is one of our key strategic priorities, with solid experience in fresh produce, you will be integral in the development of a unique procurement network in CA. Reporting to the Regional Director, you will be part of one of the most exciting and innovative companies in our sector. Developing a strong relationship and coordinating with our Head of Produce in NY will be critical to the role. This highly visible role will be instrumental in achieving our purpose: revolutionizing our food system through our commitment to flavor and operational excellence.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Procure fresh produce for distribution, ordering and logistic planning and managing
  • Execute daily buying activities and support weekly and seasonal buying strategies
  • Develop/maintain relationships with growers to highest at an appropriate cost
  • Analyze sales and inventory data daily to maintain optimal supply and on-time delivery
  • Negotiate pricing as required to ensure targeted margins
  • Perform/report product QC results, resolve quality issues and manage rejections
  • Resolve all issues related to invoicing, refunds/credits, product quality, delivery coordination and ensure all procurement data is all up-to-date
  • Ensure comparable product for timely replacement in case of shortages
  • Recommend new products in order to strategically expand lines
  • Develop/maintain a regional seasonal calendar and contribute with news content
  • Monitor product packaging to ensure product integrity for storage and transport
  • Be willing and legally able to drive medium-size refrigerated vehicle
  • Able to perform farm/farmer visits and market pick-ups and local deliveries
 

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

Our ideal candidate is super passionate about fresh produce, incredibly hard working and solution-driven, understands the need to be hands-on with product in order to deliver an outstanding customer experience, and has the ability to grow into a management role. As such, our successful candidate will have the following traits:

  • 1-2 years fresh produce purchasing/procurement experience
  • Passion for high-quality produce and ecological agriculture
  • Capacity to learn and execute daily, weekly and seasonal procurement strategies
  • Understanding fresh produce terminology, industry standards and local food system
  • The curiosity to learn and the thirst for growth
  • A sophisticated eye and palate for outstanding produce quality and flavor
  • Established relationships with CA farms a plus but not required
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Detail-oriented and strong decision maker, even when under pressure
  • Computer savvy, proficient in Microsoft Office,priority on Excel
  • Candidates will be asked to show proof that they can legally work in the US
