Café Erzulie is a unique Haitian-inspired Café, Bar, and Flower Shop, located at 894 Broadway in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. We are seeking experienced cooks who are passionate, hardworking and excited about joining a small team that cares deeply about its food and customer service. Café Erzulie has a menu of sandwiches, salads, and rice bowls influenced by Haitian cuisine with a New York twist using locally sourced produce whenever possible.  All menu items are made completely in-house, and we pride ourselves on consistent execution of delicious and well presented food with a story. We have breakfast/lunch service and an evening happy hour on Wednesdays through Saturdays. We're in the process of expanding our menu and we're excited to add some talent to this team!
Job description Position is part-time, with ~20+ hours per week (can be flexible). The ideal candidates for this position are communicative, outgoing, and TEAM oriented, experienced line cooks that are familiar with the Bed-Stuy community, curious and looking to work in a fun, stimulating and evolving environment. Preference goes towards those with inventory management experience and those willing and excited to participate in expanding our menu with creative and compelling dishes. Tips are shared across the board for baristas, cooks, and bartenders here so the hourly wage will reflect the addition of tips!

Core Responsibilities:
  • Prepping ingredients as elements of composed dishes including cooking proteins, prepping vegetables, cooking rice, mixing in-house marinades and dressings
  • Executing multiple dishes to order at a time while prepping
  • Receive orders from distributors, confirm food freshness, check invoice for completeness
  • Maintain organized kitchen/fridge, clean workspace, and food storage area compliant with NYC DOH
  • Participate in inventory management, par prep lists, opening and closing duties
  • -Creating daily organized and thoughtful prep lists

This position is for YOU if you are :
  • detail oriented with organizational skills - the kitchen is small and non traditional, so it is necessary to keep a clean and well organized space each shift
  • a self starter/proactive individual - when on shift, after thorough training, you will likely be working in the kitchen by yourself, managing orders, prep, and basic cleaning. It is important for you to have leadership qualities and discipline to maintain an efficient working environment when owners/managers are not present.
  • Clear and fast communicator
  • flexible and comfortable working in a non traditional kitchen - as mentioned above, the kitchen is small and it is possible to come across spatial/prep challenges. It is important for you to be able to troubleshoot and come up with creative solutions if challenges may arise.
  • interested in expanding menu, creating and testing new creative and compelling food items while on shift.
Experience and Desired Qualifications:
  • Minimum 1 year experience as an NYC line cook
  • Basic knife skills and cooking technique
  • Hard worker with desire to learn and improve
  • preference goes to those willing to commit to 1 year, with great possibility of expanding and growing within this dynamic company
  • New York Food Handlers Certificate a plus
  • Flexible scheduling and availability is preferred
Compensation this position is : hourly, $15/hr + Application instructions
