YUM Chefs is a non-profit culinary school based in San Francisco’s Mission District. In addition to the hands-on, from scratch cooking experiences we offer year round we also run week-long cooking camp sessions all summer.

Job description We are looking for an enthusiastic cooking instructor. In this position, you will assist our Director in all classes, camps, parties and workshops. 

Qualities and Requirements:

• Part time. Must be available M-F and occasionally on the weekend
• Teaching experience with children preferred
• Teaching experience with cooking preferred
• Background check
• Culinary degree or equivalent work experience
• Experience with baking and pastry preferred
• Physical
• TB Test
• ServSafe Food Handler’s Certificate (taken within the last 5 years)
• CPR and First Aid for minors certificate
• Qualities: Sense of urgency, attention to detail, ability to multi­task, ability to work with children and parents, confidence in the kitchen and overseeing children

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Assist with cooking prep per instruction of Director. Oversee a group of children for lunch prep
• Set up and teach/lead recipes in the afternoons for snack or dessert per curriculum
• Supervise kids of different ages (ranging from K-9th grade)
• Ability to adjust curriculum and recipes based on age, amount of kids and behavioral issues on the fly
• Ability to supervise kids, stoves and ovens at the same time
• Maintain a safe, sanitary, happy, and positive atmosphere
• Clean throughout the day per the closing checklist
• In charge of managing end of day clean up/close out
• Assist with child supervision throughout the day including recess
• Ability to care for kids in a calm manner when issues and injuries may arrive
• Follow safety protocol
• Assist with anything that comes up per Director
• Prepare daily snack
