Editorial Intern StarChefs

  • Date Posted December 04, 2018
  • Location Brooklyn, NY
  • Category Culinary / Media
  • Job type Internship/Apprentice
Company description StarChefs, the magazine for culinary insiders, has been serving the restaurant industry since 1995. Its mission is to catalyze culinary professionals' success and give them the tools they need to overcome their challenges. Simply put, we celebrate chefs, sommeliers, and producers and love making their lives easier, better and more successful. Internship description

StarChefs is looking for a smart, hungry intern to join our small editorial team. You'll have the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of web publishing, print production, and events—not to mention a whole helluva lot about food and the national chef community. StarChefs has been around for more than 20 years, and we publish exclusively for the restaurant community (no rainbow food here). Candidates must be driven, enthusiastic, organized, and creative (oh, and fun!).

Some of the tasks you might tackle:

  • Research candidates for StarChefs Rising Stars Awards program
  • Publish articles to StarChefs.com
  • Interview chefs and industry professionals
  • Write short features and bios for publication online and in our quarterly Rising Stars magazine
  • Pitch in with social media
  • Help keep our excel docs and lists in anal-retentive-tip-top-shape

Our ideal candidate:

  • Is a self-starter who can dive into the fray of a busy editorial department
  • Can pick up the phone and call restaurants and some of the country's best chefs
  • Knows an induction burner from a sterno
  • Is allergic to the word foodie
  • Has worked FOH or BOH or attended culinary school
  • Just graduated with a communications degree or is working toward one
  • Wants to take a deep dive into publishing and the restaurant industry

Our most successful interns come on board for three to five full days per week for three to six months. The internship is unpaid, but interns are eligible for college credit. We've hired four interns for full-time roles, and others have gone on to work for Saveur, Epicurious, and the James Beard Foundation.

Compensation this position is : college credit
