Company description

Indian Line Farm, the oldest CSA in the US, is a Certified Naturally Grown farm growing for 140 members, the Great Barrington Farmers’ Market, and several stores and restaurants. Our farm is located in the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts, 2.5 miles north of NYC. Our community is known for its beautiful rural landscape, myriad outdoor and cultural activities, as well as for having a thriving local food economy of which Indian Line is an integral part.  Growing healthy food for ourselves and our community is our goal.  

Job description

We are looking for full and part-time employees or apprentices with at least one season of experience working outdoors in some capacity. Will take the right person who has no experience. Our crew usually consists of 3-5 people. Pay dependent on experience and if housing needed ($10-14/hr). Our schedule is M-F 7:00-4:30 with Saturdays 6:45-12:00 two times per month. Season is from mid March through the end of October. Some options for November work too.
 

The work is physically demanding and fast paced. At the same time we enjoy the day, have a sense of humor and take pride in our results.


 

Job responsibilities will include all manner of tasks involved in vegetable, herb, and cut flower production including:

  • Filling flats, seeding, preparing farm beds
  • Irrigating in fields and watering plants inside and outside greenhouses
  • Transplanting seedlings
  • Caring for plants in all aspects of pre-harvest stage, including hoeing and weeding by hand
  • Weed whacking, mowing and using other equipment (including tractors) after demonstrating proficiency
  • Harvesting with sharp knives, clippers and by hand
  • Washing, packing and sorting of produce
  • Doing deliveries


Qualifications include:

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and be physically fit for a demanding job
  • Ability to work in all weather—cold, rain and heat
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must have a good attitude and work well with a farm crew and volunteers
  • Must present self well with the clients we serve: farm members, farmers’ market customers, chefs, and produce managers
  • Must be able to work efficiently and quickly
