Job description

Position Title:

Sales Manager

Reports to:

Executive Director

This is a full-time, salaried position starting at $45,000. Health benefits and paid time off are provided. Hours will vary throughout the year/season and may require some early morning and evening work.

 

Position Summary and Job Duties:

The Sales Manager will effectively facilitate sale activities by prospecting new business, developing client relationships, and identifying product opportunities. The Sales Manager will be responsible for contract negotiations, closing deals, and development of opportunities through new and existing channels. The Sales Manager will be responsible for procurement of products to meet our sales goals and will coordinate with Operations Manager on inventory and availability. The Sales Manager will build relationships with farmers and work with our grower support specialist to identify sourcing opportunities to meet sales needs.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the development of yearly/quarterly sales forecasting and budget
  • Provide excellent customer service including answering calls and emails, taking accurate orders, problem solving, and responding to customer inquires
  • Assist in the design and development of sales collateral
  • Manage procurement including contracts with farmers, pricing, and inventory
  • Work with Operations Manager to coordinate receiving and in-house inventory
  • Responsible for in-house sales to businesses using our kitchen or warehouse
  • Coordinate with Marketing Coordinator to ensure effective marketing plan
  • Gather data about institutional customers and continually research sales opportunities to all sectors of local food system
  • Prepare sales reports for weekly meetings with executive director
  • Track sales and invoices for accounting, program evaluation, and reporting purposes
  • Monitor and issue reports relating to customer behavior trends
  • Continually work with wholesale team to evaluate our products pricing and collect and analyze competitors’ pricing
  • Build and continually update availability sales sheet with pricing
  • Coordinate with Grower Support Specialist on product availability and future product offerings

 

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have experience in outside sales and an interest in supporting the local food system. Previous work experience in procurement is a must.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of local food system and local products including produce, meat, eggs, dairy, dry goods, and value-added products
  • Familiarity with Organic and GAP/GHP Certifications

 

Education and Experience:

  • Sales experience required
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience with QuickBooks, Microsoft Office suite, Airtable, and various data management software preferred
