The mission of the Louis August Jonas Foundation is to develop in promising young people from around the world a lifelong commitment to compassionate and responsible leadership for the betterment of their communities and the world. 
 

Since 1930, the Foundation has pursued this mission through its full-scholarship, international summer leadership program, Camp Rising Sun (CRS). CRS is an experiential learning program that encourages students to practice ethical leadership, build community across differences, and grow intellectually, artistically, and culturally. 
 

Camp Rising Sun hires seasonal staff that are passionate about international and multicultural education, youth leadership development, and community. 

Job description

The Head Chef plans and prepares 3 meals daily, with the assistance of 1-2 cooks, for 80 people from diverse international backgrounds, including accommodations for special dietary restrictions and allergies. Great opportunity to gain experience managing a staff, working with local food purveyors within a budget, and designing an international menu within a supportive community. 

Housing is provided but residency is optional.  Competitive salary. Dates of employment are June 10, 2019 – August 28, 2019. 

The Camp Rising Sun kitchen is a warm, inviting community space where campers enjoy learning from the chefs and helping to prepare cultural meals from home throughout the summer. We encourage the Head Chef to purchase produce from local farms and promote healthy, sustainable cooking. 
 

Desired Qualifications

  • Educated and/or experienced in running a large-scale kitchen and in planning large-scale meals.
  • Experience maintaining a predetermined budget.
  • Experience working with youth preferred.
  • Patience, ability to apply feedback, and excellent organizational skills are required.
