Dc Greens seeks a Farmers’ Market Brigade Assistant. We are looking for an organized, reliable and personable team player who will manage volunteers in the Farmers’ Market Brigade for the Produce Plus program. Through Produce Plus, eligible DC residents can receive $10 when they visit a participating DC farmers’ market, up to two times per week. This program is first-come first-serve, while supplies last. Produce Plus can be spent on fresh fruit, vegetables, and cut herbs at over 50 farmers markets across the city.
 

This position would be well-suited for an energetic individual who is a self-starter, excited to tackle a wide range of tasks, and enjoys working with people. This position reports to the Community Engagement Specialist for Volunteers in a dynamic work environment with ample learning and growth opportunities.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Farmers’ Market Brigade Management

  • Assist with implementation of volunteer recruitment plan to mobilize 250+ individual Farmers’ Market Brigade volunteers;
  • Coordinate volunteer trainings and online training resources for volunteers in tandem with the Produce Plus team;
  • Oversee the volunteer management website for coordinating the Farmers’ Market Brigade;
  • Manage weekly and individual communications with Farmers’ Market Brigade volunteers;
  • Together with the Produce Plus team, implement best practices for monitoring and improving volunteer performance;
  • Conduct farmers’ market site visits throughout the Produce Plus season (June - September);
  • Assist the Community Engagement Specialist for Volunteers with management of Volunteer Leaders;
  • Assist with program evaluation and end-of-season activities in the month of October;
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years experience in paid or unpaid volunteer coordination and/or office administration
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; someone who sees the best in others
  • Proactive worker who takes initiative and can work independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive. Willingness to learn new web platforms including Mailchimp and our volunteer management website
  • Fast learner and creative thinker
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience and cultural competence working with historically oppressed peoples
  • Familiarity with DC communities preferred
  • Ability to spend 2-3 hours of time outdoors in summer weather on a recurring basis
  • Proficiency in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or Amharic is a plus

 

Salary & Benefits

This is a temporary, seasonal and part-time (30 hours/week) position from mid-February to October 2019. The pay is $18.00 per hour less any applicable withholdings. This position will require work during the evenings and on weekends, with flexibility of work hours. Transportation benefits are provided. This position is ineligible to receive any other company benefits.
