Crew Member - Future Crew Manager River Run Farm

  • Date Posted December 14, 2018
  • Location Sequim, WA
  • Category Agriculture
  • Job type Full-Time
Company description Located in Sequim at the foothills of the Olympic Mountains, River Run Farm is a cooperatively run vegetable operation. Our organic veggies make their way to customers through Seattle Farmers Markets, a CSA, an on-site farmstand, and wholesale distributors in the region. In addition to tractors and veggies, we have cows, chickens, donkeys, and draft horses that contribute to tillage, fertility, and other farm systems (including human happiness!). Not far from the farm, you will have easy access to loads of hiking trails, Olympic National Park, the ocean, and the Dungeness River, which abuts the property. Job description

River Run Farm is growing our team of farmers. We are looking for an additional team member who will help on the harvest/field crew for 2019, but who ultimately desires to coordinate and lead the harvest/field crew in future seasons. We are interested in folks with full seasons of farming experience who have managed or led groups of people and know that they enjoy both the labor of farming and the joys and challenges of leading a crew.

We are a team of nine youthful farmers who work together to make decisions and keep the farm system running. For some, 2019 will be their second season here, for others it will be their third, fourth and sixth season. We are a tight knit group and it is very important to us that we find someone that matches the energy and personality of our team.

For the 2019 season, we need an additional harvest/field crew member. This job includes:

-Hoeing

-Hand Weeding and Thinning

-Harvesting for Farmer’s market, CSA, and Wholesale

-Washing, Sorting, and Packing

-Possibly CSA box packing, CSA delivery or Transplanting.

We grow vegetables on 12 acres and your days and weeks will be filled to the brim with the above mentioned activities.

Assuming we all still find each other to be a good match after the 2019 season, your role would change to a crew lead/coordinator position for the 2020 season. In this role you would do all the same activities as the year prior (2019) but in addition you would:

-coordinate crew members/equipment needs and delegate tasks

-organize smooth transitions for the crew daily

-depending on past farming experience, would possibly create the weekly schedule/ farm priorities for the crew

Qualifications:

-At least one full season (preferably more) working on a production vegetable farm

-A desire to work on a team and in a close community

-Positive experience working on a team

-Management/ Coordination/ Leadership experience and interest

-A love of people and of this work
