Company description

Food and Finance High School (FFHS) is the only full-time Culinary Arts high school in New York City located in the Hell’s Kitchen Midtown area and has received designation as a Career Technical Education (CTE) High School from the NYC Department of Education. In addition to their core academic program, students participate in culinary arts programming. Students come from all 5 boroughs, most from economically disadvantaged neighborhoods. FFHS graduated over 91% of its 2017 Senior Class with the majority pursuing culinary arts careers in their post-secondary education.  

The Food Education Fund (FEF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that supports FFHS in various ways including funding and running its internship program for seniors to work with NYC restaurants and eateries. FEF also runs the Visiting Chef program, and provides coordination support for enrichment programming such as SAT Prep and Financial literacy classes, and collaborates with FFHS to support students with scholarships opportunities for college. POSITION:

The Development and Program Intern will play a large role in both the spring internship program as well as in the coordination for the annual gala, Small Plates Big Hearts, on March 11. The role will encompass admin work for the internship program, event coordination and management, and additional program support.

 

This is a three-month part-time (15-20 hours per week) internship beginning as soon as possible and ending in the end of March. This position requires availability to occasionally work evenings, as necessary; ability to work flexible hours if needed (schedule will be fixed, flexible hours are in regards to the Annual Gala and any related meetings).

 

Compensation: This position pays $15 / hour

 

The Development and Program Intern will report to the Executive Director and support the following responsibilities:
 

Event Coordination - Annual Gala

  • Manages the registration process for FFHS events including tracking registration fees
  • Supports Executive Director and Gala Director in communicating information about event
  • Facilitate logistics of events coordinating rentals/chef coordination/auction items
  • Manages volunteers leading up to and night of event
  • Manages and tracks all auction and gift bag outreach
 

School Relations

  • Interacts with FFHS students and alumni on a regular basis, including program support for the Senior Internship program
  • Interacts with the chef instructors and visiting chefs on a regular basis
 

Outreach / Communications

  • Update Social media/newsletters to drive awareness
  • Communicates with members using MailChimp
  • Responsible for regular email communication


External Relations

  • Attends some meetings/events as representative of FFHS or FEF
  • Works to build and facilitate key partnerships with other community partners and industry partners
  • May initiate and maintain communication with partnering organizations, including employer partners for the ProStart Senior Internship program
 

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree, related field preferred
  • Ideal candidate has nonprofit development and/or program experience and is comfortable multitasking
  • Strong computer skills including MailChimp, Microsoft Office, GSuite, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Absolutely crucial to be a self-starter as the organization currently consists of two people


Work Schedule: The Development and Program Intern will work up to 20 hours a week likely starting at 15 hours per week, creating a schedule that best supports FFHS as well as the Development and Program Intern. The Development and Program Intern will maintain a timesheet, which documents the time worked and the tasks accomplished. The Development and Program Intern will manage his/her time effectively so as to ensure all tasks are completed during peak periods and that long-term projects are completed during non-peak periods.The Development and Program Intern will be expected to be present at the school at least three days a week.
