Company description Breaking ground along the Westside Trail of the Atlanta BeltLine, Aluma Farm is transforming an old industrial lot into a thriving production farm.  We grow vegetables, small fruits, flowers, herbs and microgreens to serve our weekly neighborhood Farmstand, CSA, and several local restaurants. We are currently looking to fill two full time Farm Crew positions for the 2019 Season. Farm crew workers will work under the direct supervision of the owner/managers and will participate in all the various tasks of a small vegetable farm.  This includes, but is not limited to: starting transplants in the greenhouse, daily greenhouse maintenance, preparing no-till beds for planting in the field (broadforking, adding compost, and raking), direct seeding field crops, transplanting crops in the field, cultivating established crops, assisting with irrigation management, helping carry out pest and disease management, harvesting all the various vegetables and fruits we grow over the course of the season, and washing and packing produce for restaurant deliveries, our weekly on farm market, and CSA. The experience gained from this position should well prepare workers for continued and progressing positions in sustainable agriculture. In addition to learning the practical skills required to become a competent farmer, farm crew workers will also gain a deeper understanding of the science and philosophy of sustainable agriculture, and how those principles guide the operations of a working farm.

 

Farming is physically demanding work and we expect our employees to be committed, passionate and hard working. We strive to maintain a positive work environment and expect crew members to be professional, productive, and to maintain a good attitude. Ideal candidates will be dependable/timely, self-motivated, curious, quick learners, able to take direction and follow specific instructions. Candidates must be able to work on their feet all day, lift 50 lbs, and perform at a high level in all types of conditions. (Heat/Humidity, Cold, and Rain). Candidates who have some experience or background in farming or gardening and live in Southwest Atlanta are preferred. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

 

Work will begin in March and continue through November. Candidates must be able to commit to the entire duration. Hours will vary depending on the season, with spring and fall being 30-35 hours/week and summer consisting of 40-45 hours/week,  Tuesday-Saturday. Compensation starts at $9/hour and employees are also provided vegetables from the farm.
