Company description EarthDance Organic Farm School is a working farm and nonprofit that runs a variety of programs to educate people of all ages about organic farming, gardening, permaculture, and sustainability. Our flagship program, the Farm & Garden Apprenticeship, educates 20-30 adults in all aspects of farming and gardening to obtain the skills and confidence to run a garden or small farm. Location: 233 S Dade Ave, Ferguson, MO 63135 (St. Louis, Missouri)
Hours: Approximately 40 hours/week

Job Description Summary
EarthDance is seeking a dynamic, team-oriented, talented, curious, and soil-building vegetable farmer with excellent growing, education, management, communication, and organizational skills to serve as our Farm Manager. This Farm Manager will advance EarthDance’s mission by providing inspiring and steady leadership for EarthDance’s organic food production while training the next generation of growers, and with full dedication to regenerative agriculture and embracing our community’s involvement. As Farm Manager, you will be joining a team of farmers and educators in optimizing mixed vegetable, fruit, and herb production on our 14 acre historic, certified organic farm in Ferguson, Missouri. Located in a residential neighborhood, this farm is designed with permaculture principles at play. While the farm has 6 tillable acres, vegetable production is focused on 1 acre of intensive no-till management, and the remainder is in a 200+ mixed fruit orchard planted on berms and swales with annual crops alley-cropped between fields planted to cover crops, and prairie gardens providing additional pollinator habitat. The farm also has 7980 sq ft of high tunnels, a 30x96 greenhouse (with the back portion being used as our Living Yoga Studio), a harvest house (pack shed) with 2 walk-in coolers, a garden shed, a Seven Generations garden, Position Description: Farm Manager, EarthDance triple-basin rain garden, shaded picnic area, community pavilion, permaculture-inspired parking grove, and a farmhouse office on site. Your job as Farm Manager will be to lead a team of dedicated farmers, farmer educators, and apprentices to grow an abundance of organic fruits and vegetables through consistent effort, thoughtful planning, timely action, compassionate guidance, and dynamic team-building. At EarthDance we utilize a number of systems and processes for farming smarter not harder and enjoy laughter and shared meals as a part of and complement to the impact-driven programming.

Operating a thriving Organic Farm School with top-notch production systems is built on having committed team members. We are seeking a minimum 3-year commitment to this position.

Requirements
● At least 5 years/full seasons of organic vegetable farming (with a minimum of 1 full acre in vegetables); experience with no-till, small scale, intensive market farming strongly preferred
● Supervisory/management experience in a farm setting
● Rigorous knowledge, understanding of, and experience practicing regenerative organic agriculture
● Demonstrated strength at recruiting, hiring, training, managing, and developing a team
● Experience as an educator
● Demonstrated time management and organization skills
● Exemplary at planning, scheduling, anticipating and adapting
● Strong decision-making skills; excellent use of discretion
● Excellent at building relationships with diverse groups of people and the ability to find common ground
● Competency in using spreadsheets, budgeting, and financial management
● Areas of competency to include crop planning, composting, irrigation, cover cropping, pest management, greenhouse management
● Knowledge of the use and service requirements of tractors, plows, discs, cultivators, and other farm equipment and implements
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills
● Professional, positive, friendly, and enthusiastic demeanor
