Company description

We farm on 2 acres of land and grow over 100 varieties of vegetables for 3 Summer farmer's markets, 1 Winter Farmer's market and many wholesale accounts. We use intensive growing techniques to get the most out of our "market garden" including a wide range of small, efficient farm tools and techniques that we have perfected over the years. We also do a lot of season extension including high and low tunnels to grow Winter, early and late crops. We turn over our beds very rapidly and grow a lot of high quality produce on our small acreage.

Internship description We farm a bit differently at Rolling Hills! We're a 2 acre farm that focuses on sustainability in both our growing methods and for our employees. We utilize many high tunnels, low tunnels, and small farm tools on our 2 acres to grow a wide variety of crops. At our farm you will learn how to use low tech infrastructure and tools to grow many crops the most efficient way possible. We grow many crops early in the season and late into the year in order to balance the workload and prevent burnout in the Summer months. Learn all aspects of the farm including seeding, planting, harvesting, washing/packing, and marketing. Our interns work 40-45 hours a week, including farming and a farmers market on the weekend. Work week is Tuesday through Saturday with Sunday and Monday off. Learn how to grow a lot of organic food on very small acreage sustainably and leave our farm with the information you need to start your own small scale operation! Our interns are just as important to the business as the owners are and will be taught every aspect of what we do in order to understand the full picture. During farm walks each week we all determine what needs to happen that week and how to do it best! Start and End dates are not set in stone depending on intern's availability. Pay is $10-$13, depending on experience. We do not offer housing. Compensation this position is : hourly, varies DOE, $10.00 - $13.00
