Part-time Organic Produce Harvester Rodgers Greens and Roots Farm

  • Date Posted January 28, 2019
  • Location Douglasville, GA
  • Category Agriculture
  • Job type Part-Time
Company description Rodgers Greens and Roots is a certified organic farm located 30 minutes southwest of Atlanta in Douglasville, Georgia, on 64 acres of historic farmland along the Chattahoochee River. Currently, 15 acres of flat clay-loam soil are under cultivation using organic practices.  Rodgers Greens and Roots was voted Best Local Farm 2018 by Atlanta Magazine.

We are not your average farm. Ashley Rodgers, the farm’s Owner and Operator, has been farming in Georgia organically for the last decade. Ashley is a mid-30's entrepreneur go-getter that doesn't let anything hold her back. We strive to create a work environment that is team spirited and hardworking. If you want to work with a young team of farmers that grow over 100,000 pounds each year of the best organic vegetables being sold to Metro Atlanta, then come join our team. You can learn more about Ashley and her farming practices/beliefs on the following media: CBS Sunday Morning, Women’s Health Magazine, and Civil Eats.

We sell our produce at 2 Atlanta Farmers Markets (Peachtree Road Farmers Market and Morningside Farmers Market) and to over 25 Metro-Atlanta area restaurants, our own CSA and our largest farm partner: Fresh Harvest of Georgia. The farm’s growing style is medium-scale, mechanized production: tractors, tools and machinery, however, we are not a big AG farm. Sustainable farming practices are the backbone of Rodgers Greens and Roots: compost, cover crop, and crop rotation.

We are a young, liberal-minded farming family and crew as well as an equal opportunity employer without discrimination. Job description

We are seeking part-time folks to help with harvesting and order fulfillment. We plant 12 acres (of the 15) of certified organic vegetables each year  and need extra help seeding in the greenhouse, harvesting, washing and boxing the tons of produce we grow for our local Atlanta customers.

We are flexible on availability and scheduling, anywhere from 1 to 3 days a week, primarily: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We are willing to work with your school or other work schedules.  Positions available from March until December.

No experience is required. We are seeking open-minded organic vegetable lovers, or anyone who wants to participate in a locally owned and operated organic vegetable farm. We grow over 50 different kinds of vegetables. You will gain experience and skills in harvesting all types of vegetables. We are serious about what we do. We work hard, love what we do, and have fun doing it while maintaining efficiency growing a massive amount of vegetables.

In addition to harvesting we occasionally need help with day to day farm tasks and growing: greenhouse seeding, transplanting, cultivation and weed control.

 Job Requirements:

  • An interest in farming
  • A mind for efficiency, attention to detail, organization and a sense of urgency
  • Open and positive communication skills

Pay:
  • $10/hr + free veggies to take home!
