Company description

Established in 2011, One Leaf Farm grows a wide variety of vegetables on 7-acres outside of Snohomish, WA. Our produce is grown without the use of synthetic chemicals. We build our soil’s fertility with cover crops, compost, crop rotation, animal grazing, and allow for a fallow resting period.  We sell at one Seattle farmers markets, to Seattle-area restaurants, and through a collective CSA.

One Leaf Farm is a commercial farm that runs a lean operation.  The workday is packed with activity.  Everyone on the farm has a role, every day of the week comes with its full list of tasks.  We strive to hone our production systems for optimum efficiency; streamlining operations, reducing waste, and getting a lot done at work so that we can have a balanced work/life schedule.

Job description

Market Lead is responsible for vending at the Ballard Farmers Market and delivering to Seattle area restaurants. 
The One Leaf team is the Farm Owner, two Lead members, and three Crew members. All leads will regularly assist with functions on the farm outside of
their primary area of responsibility, reporting to the lead responsible for the function. These tasks include weeding, harvesting, transplanting, and others.

Schedule
April-November 40 hours/week
December-March 30 hours/week
Friday-Tuesday

Responsibilities and Duties

Strategic Implementation
● Under the direction of the Farm Owner, creates short and long-term strategies for merchandising, sales and delivery.
● Participates in the leadership of One Leaf Farm as a member of the Lead Team.
Works closely with Harvest Lead for harvest and packing needs.

Department Operations
● Ensures weekly market and delivery tasks are performed in a timely, effective, and efficient manner.
● Grows restaurant sales by building relationships between the farm and wholesale buyers
● Record keeping: Clearly and in detail record farmers market inventory and sales.
● Keeps track of farmers’ market equipment and supplies and requests purchases as needed.

Duties, Detailed

Farmers’ Markets Duties:
○ Packs, loads, and drives the market van with all needed farmers’ market equipment and produce.
○ Sets up farmers’ market stall, safely and effectively.
○ Merchandises produce to create and maintain a beautiful display, with clear signage and pricing
○ Tracks sales and records inventory
○ Processes cash and card payments
○ Provides friendly, proactive service to market customers
○ Is knowledgeable about vegetables and cooking.
○ Answers customer questions about farm’s growing practices and products.
○ Communicates with farmers’ market managers, and follows their rules and instructions.
○ Restaurant Delivery Delivers orders correctly, communicates with restaurant staff, provides invoices and accepts payment (when applicable)
○ Strategic planning of frequently changing delivery route

Crew Supervision

Farmers’ Market Supervision
● Facilitates and carries out farmers market duties, making sure safety and performance standards are met.
● Delegates duties to farmers’ market helper.
● Trains employees on how to vend at the market.
● Acts as an example of excellent customer service.
● Follows and improves established practices for farmers’ market vending

Safety and Security
● Ensures that market helper uses safe working (i.e. moving, lifting) techniques.
● Ensures delivery vehicle is used safely and properly.
● Maintains market equipment in working order; performing small repair, and recommends repair or replacement as needed.
● Performs other duties as assigned

Required Skills
● Licensed driver, with an excellent driving record and driving skills.
● At least one year working on a vegetable production farm
● Minimum two years experience in retail, preferably at farmers’ markets.
● Experience in leadership role.
● Cash handling.
● Excellent customer service
● Can create a friendly and fun working atmosphere.
● Able to take written and verbal direction well
● Clear and concise record keeping and note making
● Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
● Great time management
● Punctual
● Knows their way around Seattle.
● Able to lift 40lbs, and enjoys physical labor.
