Company description Good Keeper Farm is a family owned and operated Full Diet CSA farm that is run by husband and wife team, Matthew Lowe and Julie Henninger.  They grow 5 acres of vegetables in process of becoming Certified Organic, 200 laying hens, 8-12 steers, 1000 broiler chickens and 250 turkeys. There are two growing styles: one is low-till, using at most a BCS, harrow, and flaw mower, as well as tarps and landscape fabric to manage their permanent raised vegetable beds.  The other style is a more traditional tractor-based culture with plastic mulch or cultivation.   They produce year round and manage 5 unheated high tunnels during the winter months for their CSA and winter market. Job description Our Farm Crew position needs to be flexible to do a little bit of everything on the farm with a focus on efficiency and detail.  The position covers not just vegetable care but also animal care and butchering.   The Farm Crew will be involved in the full chain of production, from seeding in the greenhouse, planting, harvesting, washing, storing, serving and customer interaction.  

Qualifications
  • 2+ years relevant experience sustainable vegetable production.  We would be willing to train the right candidate who lacks farm experience.
  • Able to work outside in all weather conditions (heat, rain, cold) and lift up to 50 lbs. safely
  • Valid driver’s license

These are the main areas of work:
  • Greenhouse seeding, watering and record keeping
  • Field planting, weeding, trellising, spraying and harvesting
  • Wash Station management; sanitation and organizing
  • Market management; set up, selling produce, tearing down and driving back to farm
  • High Tunnel:  trellising tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers, planting, weeding, pest and disease scouting
  • Animal Care; watering and feeding steers, laying hens, broiler chicken and turkeys.  Rotating animals on pasture.
  • Store:  setting up for CSA pick up, restocking produce and other products, customer service
