Company description
Orchard Hill Breadworks is a rural, wood-fired artisan bakery in southwest NH. We focus on hearth baked naturally leavened breads but we produce a wide variety of high quality baked goods for both retail and wholesale.

Built on the site of our family homestead, we started as a solo operation baking in a homemade outdoor clay oven. Over several years, two further oven changes and extensive renovations we are now a team of 12 and produce as many as a thousand loaves on our busiest days. In addition to providing bread for our region, we strive to serve our community in other ways as well. We are a meeting place in many ways, but most notably at our benefit community pizza nights in the summer.

We support other local producers by using and selling their eggs, milk, cream, butter and vegetables. We collaborate with schools and other educational organizations, hosting field trips and sharing what we do.

We embrace the need to constantly refine and improve what we do and how we do it. With close to 20 years under our belts we've learned a lot and have a thriving small business to show for it, but learning, teaching and improvement are some of the most satisfying aspects of our work.

Internship description Our next openings begin May 1st and September 1st and run for 13 months from start date.

     Apprentices are an important part of the production team at Orchard Hill Breadworks and take on increasing amounts of responsibility as their time here goes on. Over a 13 month stay, our apprentices are given the opportunity to learn every aspect of wood-fired baking, from dough process to oven firing and baking. Baking experience is not required, but experience with fast paced manual work such as farming or a restaurant kitchen is helpful and highly recommended. The ideal candidate is energetic, resilient, focused, self reliant, gets along well in a team setting and is comfortable with long hours, heavy lifting and a fast paced work environment. Work includes all aspects of bakery operations including packing, cleaning and stocking ingredients. Room, board and pay provided. Compensation this position is : stipend / non-monetary compensation
