Company description Common Threads connects kids to healthy food in the garden, in the kitchen, and at the table. We want kids to grow up making food choices that are good for their bodies, their communities, and the environment. Founded in 2007 and based in Bellingham, Washington, Common Threads is a grassroots, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that promotes a “seed to table” approach to food production, good nutrition, and environmental stewardship.  Most of our Whatcom County programs take place on public school grounds, during the school day, in collaboration with classroom teachers and food service staff. Additionally, we after-school gardening and cooking programs and summer camps in our school gardens and at our urban farm site.
PLEASE NOTE: Common Threads also coordinates a state-wide collaboration of Food Educators in partnership with several other nonprofits: Concrete Farm to School, Coupeville Farm to School, Lower Columbia School Gardens, and Oxbow Farm and Conservation Center.  Each site does its own interviewing and recruiting.  You are welcome to apply for consideration at just one site or at multiple sites.  Check each site's website for full details. Job description

When kids eat better, they learn better, act better and feel better.  Eating habits formed when children are young are strong indicators of lifelong eating behaviors.  Making healthy food the easy, accessible, and joyful choice for children increases the likelihood of them making healthy food choices as they age, and decreases the likelihood of food related illness such as obesity and diabetes.  Many children do not eat a healthy enough diet, which in turn negatively impacts multiple areas including children’s health, behavior, and ability to learn in school.

We’re currently recruiting  for a state-wide team of 20+ AmeriCorps food educators who will begin in mid August-early September 2019.  AmeriCorps Service Members receive a monthly stipend  ($1450/mo pre-tax), health insurance, food stamps (if eligible) and an end of service educational award of $5920 from AmeriCorps.  Applicants are reviewed on a rolling basis, with positions open until filled.  If this looks like a good fit for you, please do not delay in applying!
