The position of Farm Assistant directly reports to the Estate Manager. The most important success factor in this position is providing for the wellness and safety of the animals and taking care of seasonal gardening needs.

  • Feeding animals

  • Providing animals with water

  • Cleaning out pens and enclosures

  • Providing fresh straw and hay

  • Ensuring the physical wellbeing of all the animals on the farm

  •  Moving animals from one paddock of the farm to the other

  •  Maintaining the condition of the farm buildings- alert Estate Manager of problem or needed repairs

  •  Operating farming machinery

  • Coordinating the maintenance of the machinery

  • Assist in sheering alpaca and sheep

  • Assist in the coordination of fertilizing and grooming paddocks

  • Make recommendations on facility improvement and assist in its implementation (fences, working systems, etc.)

  • Possess the ability for strategic planning for the future of the operation

  • Providing care for vulnerable animals, and give medications

  • Assist in developing standards and procedure for consistent operations

  • Snow removal for adequate access to barn areas

  • Barn inventory control

  •  A thorough knowledge of farming practices and animal care

  • Knowledge of gardening and plant care
  • Ability to weed, plant, and water seasonal gardening needs 
  •  Physical strength and stamina

  •   Problem-solving skills

  •  Flexibility

  •  Organizational skills

  •  The ability to work well as part of a team

  •   Comfort with technology to communicate via email and online calendar, farm data entry

  •  Dedication to furthering the successful development of the environment

Compensation this position is : hourly, $15/hr + Application instructions
