Company description Stout Oak Farm is a Certified Organic, solar-powered, vegetable farm in Brentwood, New Hampshire (Seacoast area). We grow 5 acres of vegetables for our CSA, Farm Store, farmers’ markets and local restaurants. Additional enterprises include microgreens production, seedling sales to home vegetable gardeners, as well as a young fruit orchard. Stout Oak Farm is in search of a hard-working, experienced, motivated individual to join our farm crew. Take your vegetable production skills to the next level, and play an integral role on our small, dynamic team!
 

FIELD MANAGER

Our ideal candidate:

  • Has a minimum of 2 years experience working on a vegetable farm.
  • Brings to the job specific experience in organic vegetable production including bed preparation, transplanting, seeding, irrigation, weeding, tractor operation, greenhouse seedling production, cover cropping, season extension techniques, harvesting, post-harvest handling, and record-keeping.
  • Additional experience in CSA coordination, on-farm retail, and farmers’ markets is a plus.
  • Demonstrates competence in a wide range of technical skills, and is well versed in all aspects of small-scale organic vegetable farming.
  • Is confident and comfortable training new crew members and managing group tasks.
  • Sets a high standard for the rest of the crew. Executes tasks with great attention to detail.
  • Highly organized. Manages time well, and is able to juggle multiple tasks.
  • Is a fast worker and quick learner. Thrives in a fast-paced, high-energy work environment.
  • Loves working outdoors and embraces the challenges of a physically demanding job.
  • Brings a positive attitude and ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.
  • Is both reliable and adaptable, with a strong worth ethic.
  • Comfortable repeatedly lifting 50 pounds.

The Field Manager is involved in every aspect of vegetable production on the farm, working directly with the Farm Manager to set goals and implement a weekly field work plan. The Field Manager leads all group field work tasks including transplanting, weeding, trellising, mulching, row covers, amendment/fertilizer applications, irrigation, etc. The Field Manager also trains and manages new crew members and part-time workers on field tasks.

Stout Oak Farm’s core farm crew is made up of 5 full-time, and 2 to 3 part-time team members. We all participate in field work, greenhouse work, harvesting, wash/pack, marketing-related tasks, and general farm maintenance and upkeep. In addition, each full-time crew member typically takes a lead role in one or more aspects of the farm operation, such as Harvest Coordination, Wash/Pack Coordination, Greenhouse Management, Tractor Work, CSA Coordination, Farm Store Coordination, etc. It is the Field Manager’s role to coordinate with the rest of the team to set the weekly schedule, assign tasks, and implement the weekly work plan.

Compensation is based on experience. The Field Manager position is a full-time, seasonal position (40 - 45 hours) from March through late November. Part-time winter work is possible as well. Housing is not provided.
