JOB SUMMARY
Hawthorne Valley Farm Bakery is a core component of Hawthorne Valley, and sits within the Farm Branch alongside of the Farm, Store, Creamery, and Green Markets. The Bakery utilizes organic ingredients, mills in house, and sources ingredients from its own farm where possible. The Bakery Production Manager is responsible for the overall management of Hawthorne Valley Farm Bakery including all business management, strategic direction, production, and operational aspects of the commercial Bakery facility.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Should be knowledgeable in all aspects of high-volume artisan bread and pastries production and the day-to-day management of commercial bakery operations. In addition to overseeing daily bakery operations, the Manager will be responsible for the strategic management and expansion of the commercial bakery operations, as well as ongoing business analysis. This person will be involved in all business planning aspects of such an expansion and oversee its implementation, as well as involvement within the leadership of the overall HVF Farm Branch as part of the Farm Management Group.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and Experience
- Management of high-volume production including sales, production scheduling, order fulfillment, supplies management, product quality control, product costing, packaging, labeling, and new product development.
- Operating and capital budgeting experience, facilities maintenance oversight, organic certification, food safety, and sanitation compliance experience.
- Supervisory experience including staff development, training, and evaluation.
Skills & Abilities
- Experience in managing commercial bakery operations and producing artisan breads highly preferred.
- Formal culinary education with a concentration in Bakery and Pastry Arts.
- A passion and commitment to wholesome, organic food production.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong organizational abilities and knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of organic bread production and certification a plus.
