Do you know how to grow your own food? Do you enjoy working with people? Do you want to combat food justice related issues in the Silicon Valley?
Valley Verde implements home garden programs that improve the health of low income communities in Santa Clara County which empowers them with the knowledge and skills to provide homegrown vegetables for their families.
We will accomplish this by providing home garden supplies, monthly gardening workshops, mentorship, and garden visits to address the needs of food access and insecurity in the community.

Essential job functions
With support from the Home Garden program manager and executive director, the program coordinator will organize, implement and manage the Parisi House on the Hill Program (10 participants) and the Second Street Studio Apartment program (20 participants).
This will involve:
- Leading and teaching organic gardening and nutrition classes for participants
- Scheduling and making monthly garden visits to participants
- Sourcing garden materials (lumber, soil and compost)
- Organizing and assisting with the distribution of garden materials (heavy lifting)
- Learning and modifying VV’s gardening curriculum
- Collecting year-long data and managing the program evaluation process including focus groups meetings
- Represent the San Jose Garden Programs and develop partnerships within the community
- Supervision of program assistant/intern
- Recruit and manage volunteers and interns
- Supporting the Home Garden Program Manager with additional needs and tasks
Skills/Qualifications
- Bi-lingual English/Spanish, English/Vietnamese, or English/Mandarin required
- At least 1 year of experience growing organic vegetables and urban gardening preferred
- At least 1 year of teaching or group facilitation preferred
- Strong writing & curriculum development skills desired
- Must be extremely organized and have the ability to prioritize projects to meet deadlines consistently
- Must be able to work independently, show creativity, ability to initiate projects with limited supervision
- Excellent computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google products, Mailchimp, and Canva
- Comfortable working in a multiethnic community environment
- Ability to develop relations with program participants regardless of language barriers or physical disabilities
- Having a car and car insurance for transportation is essential
