Responsibilities Include
- Ordering, maintaining an appropriate inventory of food and supplies, and using resources effectively and economically.
- The Head Cook is also responsible for the cleanliness and order of the kitchen and kitchen equipment, as well as assuring safe and appropriate storage of food, and compliance with state health regulations.
- Training and supervising the assistant cooks and other kitchen staff, who assist with food preparation, serving, and kitchen cleanup.
- Scheduling kitchen staff, making sure that staff keep to the hours scheduled, and assuring compliance with all state regulations relating to labor and safety.
- Communicates with the head farmer to efficiently make use of the produce from our organic vegetable gardens.
- Experience as cook and/or assistant cook
- Desire and ability to work in a camp setting
- Supervisory skills
- Training and experience in cooking for large groups
- Ability to prepare both nutritious vegetarian offerings and meat dishes
- Knowledge of standards of food preparation and serving and kitchen procedures
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Current tuberculosis test
