Ramah in the Rockies is a co-ed, residential, outdoor adventure summer camp program located in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Campers at Ramah in the Rockies range in age from 8-18 and participate in 2-week or 4-week programs.

The Mission of Ramah in the Rockies is to nurture the character development of Jewish youth by providing them the opportunity to challenge themselves physically, intellectually and spiritually.

Job description

Position Qualifications: We are seeking individuals experienced with organic gardening and passionate about sharing their knowledge with campers.  Our farm staff is part of our general program staff, and expected to contribute to the overall camp community.  This includes supervising campers during free time, assisting in the kitchen, and participating in camp wide programming. We value flexibility, communication, compassion, and willingness to give 100%.  Farm staff are not required to identify as Jewish, but must be willing to respect our Jewish communal environment.  Staff who are curious, self-starting, and inquisitive do well in our fast paced environment.  Our farm includes two garden plots, a permaculture area, greenhouse, ~18 chickens, and 4 goats.

 

Specific Position Responsibilities and Qualifications:

Farm Educator/Trip Leader (Movil Masa Chava)

  • This person should be passionate about education, and have experience teaching Jewish texts and values related to ecology, farming, and human’s relationship to the planet.
  • Work with Farm Director and Animal Care Specialist to teach various farm programs at basecamp. This includes developing curriculum for all ages of campers.
  • Complete farm chores as assigned by Farm Director.
  • Lead (4) 5-day farm trips to a permaculture education center, along with (1) additional staff member. These trips are with our 9th and 10th grade campers.  Leading this trip includes taking responsibility for gear, food, and the educational content of the trip.  Preparations for the trip are supported by our Trips Director and Trips Educator.
  • Must have WFA or WFR certification or be able to attend our WFR course beginning May 27th, 2019.
  • This person will live in shared staff housing, and will be assigned a camper group to sit with at meals, attend programming with, etc.

 

Animal Care Specialist

  • This person's primary responsibility is to care for our farm animals, including goats & chickens.  This includes feeding/watering, milking/egg collection, and ensuring that the animals are in good health.
  • Work with Farm Director and Educator to teach various farm programs at basecamp. This includes developing curriculum for all ages of campers, with a particular focus on programs with our farm animals.
  • Complete farm chores as assigned by Farm Director.
  • This person will live in shared staff housing, and will be assigned a camper group to sit with at meals, attend programming with, etc.


Farm staff must live in residence at Ramah in the Rockies for the duration of our summer season.  Staff have (1) day off per week, as well as 1-2 hours off throughout the day. Our camp is classified as a childcare facility by the State of Colorado, thus we are required by law to run a background check on all employees AND all employees must maintain personal health insurance while employed by Ramah Outdoor Adventure.
