Black Rock Orchard has an opening for an orchard worker who has interest and experience in crop production.  In addition to general fieldwork, the worker would take our fruit to market in the DC metro area.  This is a full time permanent position with opportunity for growth.  This would be a good position for someone who wanted to learn about all aspects of sustainable orchard production with the goal of owning or managing their own farm in the future.  
     The position is a full time position all year.  
     We will also consider a seasonal worker who can stay through December.

Requirements:

• Excellent physical condition for outdoor field work
• Completed degree in Agriculture or related field.
• Interest and experience in farming, preferably crop production.
• Excellent driving record (driving history required).
• Must have current US driving license.
• References
• Non-smoker – Tobacco is toxic to greenhouse tomatoes.

Note:  Black Rock Orchard is a non-smoking and drug free workplace.   

Job Specifics:

• Orchard general field work includes wide variety of farm cultivation and greenhouse work: planting, pruning, picking and sorting fruit, for example.
• Market work: driving to market, setting up stand, selling fruit at busy urban market in the DC metro area at least day a week.
• 5 days work week (42.5 hour) includes weekend shifts.
• House Rental currently available.  (private farmhouse)

About Black Rock Orchard: Black Rock Orchard is a 100-acre orchard on the MD/PA border.  We grow a wide variety of tree fruit, berries, and specialty greenhouse tomatoes.  All of our fruit is sold at area farmers markets in the DC metro area. The orchard is located in northern Carroll County, about 45 minutes north of Baltimore.
