Fishkill Farms is a family farm in East Fishkill, NY, growing 150 acres of fruits and vegetables with sustainable practices. In addition to our own produce, the farm makes a variety of value-added products, from pies and donuts to jams, jellies, and a line of craft hard cider. Sales take place primarily on the farm through pick-your-own, our farm store and 300-member CSA, but we also attend several local farmers markets and sell to various wholesale accounts. The farm hosts tours, field trips, birthday parties and harvest festivals throughout the season, culminating in the fall festivals, when thousands of guests may visit each day for apple and pumpkin picking.

Job description

About the Position:

The Farm Store Assistant Manager will work closely with our Store & Pick-Your-Own Manager to ensure excellent customer service and smooth operations in our store, kitchen and pick-your-own areas. They will facilitate the sales and promotion of all the fruits and vegetables we grow and much more, from our homemade baked goods and craft hard cider, to the dozens of local products we carry.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage staff in our store, farm kitchen and pick-your-own operation, including training and providing feedback to seasonal employees.
  • Oversee merchandising and display of all the products we carry, from grass-fed meats and cheeses to jams, jellies and more.
  • Assist in the production of baked goods and foods in our kitchen and grill
  • Supervise day to day operations in our store including opening and closing procedures, cleaning and restocking
  • Communicate and work daily with farm team members in our production areas
  • Work with local vendors to place orders for produce and store products.
  • Manage inventory and product selection through our point of sale system.
  • Keep accurate daily records for food safety and other compliance requirements.
  • Provide excellent customer service to our visitors in person, on the phone, and through training and mentoring staff with the mission of making sure all visitors have a great experience at the farm.
 

Requirements:

  • Love of food, farming, and a passion for sustainable, community-oriented agriculture
  • Minimum of two years working in retail, food or farming; some experience in a leadership role.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills including ability to work alongside staff with varying roles and levels of experience.
  • Experience with inventory systems, word-processing and spreadsheet software such as Google Docs, Microsoft Word or Excel
  • Comfortable working either indoors or out; able to comfortably lift up to 50 pounds
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Reliable form of transportation to farm


Compensation & Schedule:

This is a full-time, year-round position. Candidates must be available to work weekends and Holidays.

 

Compensation will be hourly, based on experience and qualifications. Benefits include free produce from the farm, discounts at the store, and eligibility for paid-time-off and our 401k program.
