NYC Farmers Market driver/worker Solid Ground Farm

  • Date Posted April 17, 2019
  • Location Kingston, NY
  • Category Agriculture
  • Job type Part-Time
Company description Solid Ground Farm is a small-scale, diversified, four-season farm. We embrace land management practices that promote long-term health for our soil and other natural resources, as well as for our community.  On our six acres, we grow bountiful vegetables for our CSA members, our restaurant customers, and our two farmers markets.

We use organic practices and are working to become NOFA-NY certified organic in 2019.  We believe that all workplaces should be fair and dignified. We prioritize paying a living wage and cultivating a positive work environment.

We also believe small-scale farming in the face of a massive, globalized food system is a radical and often difficult act. Job description
Solid Ground Farm sells an assortment of veggies, focusing on pre-packaged greens at farmers markets.  We have a single-tent stand at the Columbia University Greenmarket on Thursdays.  You'll be driving and staffing the stand - it's a long day, but easy work.  Work day is 4:30 am here at the farm (just outside Kingston) and getting to market in time to set up and staff the tent.  We usually leave the market around 4 pm, getting home by 6 or so.  We've developed a steady customer base of regulars, so it's a fun day of customer-interaction.  We park the van directly behind the tent, so city parking is not an issue.

Skills:
- Farm experience (especially sales) is a plus, but not required.
- Enthusiasm and friendliness
- Good driving skills
- Willingness to work most Thursdays, starting ASAP and ending in November.  We will have some capacity to cover for days off, so if you can't commit to every single Thursday this season, it's still workable.

Compensation:
Hourly pay is $16/hour (which means $250+ for a day's work).  You are also welcome to trade veggies with other vendors at the end of the day.

Compensation this position is : hourly, $15/hr + Application instructions
