MKT is a seasoned, farm-forward food business thrilled to be opening a pop-up restaurant this summer. We have teamed up with the renowned Weston Playhouse Theater where we will be opening MKT: Weston in the downstairs of the theater and serving dinner five nights a week before the show.

 

We’re looking for a few people to round out a great team for this fun, fast paced, and highly creative endeavor. If you are a chef or cook, who meets the below description, please reach out to us (goodness@mktgrafton.com). 

Ideal candidates must be able to work quickly and efficiently. Ideally, she or he will work well under pressure in a fast paced environment and work well as part of a team. They must have strong restaurant experience. In addition to excellent culinary skills, attention to detail and an expectation for consistently delicious food, candidates must have experience menu planning, ordering, and expediting. 

The restaurant runs mid-June through the first week of September and is open Tuesday-Saturday for a full-service dinner menu and a late night light bar menu. Our food is new American with an emphasis on local ingredients, supported by local farmers and producers of Southern Vermont and the broader New England region.

You will provide leadership to the kitchen and front-of house team. You will thrive in a fast-paced, hardworking environment. Kitchen Lead Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for ensuring high-standards for quality, service, profit, safety and sanitation are met
  • Manage day to day operations of the restaurant 
  • Provide the best possible guest experience, always striving to exceed expectations
  • Create and implement excellent menus and dishes with a focus on local ingredients
  • Lead and motivate kitchen and front-of-house staff
  • Assist in ensuring that product, service and facility cleanliness are of the highest quality and consistently maintained 
  • Responsible for weekly orders and inventory control 
  • Report on food costs and help with forecasting 
  • Ensure an organized, clean and efficient space 
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned by the General Manager 
  • Maintain an excellent, positive demeanor and promote a respectful work environment 

 

Kitchen Lead Qualifications: 

  • Proven work experience as a Kitchen Manager, Head Cook or Head Chef 
  • Hands-on experience with planning menus and ordering ingredients
  • Understanding of food costs and eagerness to run an effective, efficient business
  • Knowledge of bold, beautiful flavors – and how to develop them
  • Compliance with all kitchen sanitation and safety regulations
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong Leadership skills and conflict management abilities
  • Ability to manage a team in a fast-paced work environment
  • Certification from a culinary school or degree in Restaurant Management is a plus
  • Strong references are required


Kitchen Support Responsibilities: 

  • Support our Kitchen Lead in all menu prep and execution 
  • Assist in producing our daily dinner offerings and late night menu 
  • Measure and prep ingredients to recipe specifications before or after operating hours
  • Maintaining safe, sanitary food handling practices in food prep and service areas
  • Cleaning the kitchen and dishes, including running commercial dishwasher, in order to keep space in good working order
  • Organizing fridges, freezers and coolers to reduce food waste and ensure cleanliness
  • Work well as part of a team in an often fast-paced environment
  • Maintain a positive attitude and promote a respectful work environment


Kitchen Support Qualifications: 

  • Previous experience as a Prep Cook in a professional kitchen
  • Flexible, customer service driven personality
  • Passion for food and flavor, commitment to cleanliness and professionalism
  • Strong multitasking skills and problem solving abilities (understanding that things will go wrong in this industry!)
  • Strong knife skills
  • Pastry and baking experience a plus 
  • Punctual with reliable transportation to and from work
  • Strong references
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
  • Candidates are required to complete a minimum of two trial shifts before being hired

 

Wages: Competitive; Pay based on role and previous experience; Housing may be available.
