Facilities & Events Assistant

Astor Center is hiring a part time assistant to help produce ongoing wine, spirits and cocktail classes in our state-of-the-art NoHo venue. For additional information, see www.astorcenternyc.com.

 

Position Overview:

The Event Assistant is responsible for aiding the General Manager and event staff in the day-to-day tasks associated with putting together classes and events at Astor Center. This includes but is not limited to setting up and prepping for class, creating handouts and other print materials, managing volunteers, registration and customer service, maintaining high standards of the tasting facility and kitchen and breaking down class. Ideal candidate has a strong interest in wine, spirits and cocktails – experience preferred, though a willingness to learn is all that is required.

This is a part-time, paid position. Candidates must be able to work flexible hours as schedules vary week-to-week. Schedule will typically include (3-4) shifts from 2pm-10pm, as well as (1) 4-hour shift in the office. The office shift can be flexible depending on your schedule. Occasional Saturdays required. Although schedules vary from week to week, you will know what your schedule is up to 2 months out. 

 

Skills and Experience:

  • Exceptional organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple tasks at once and effectively prioritize.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to proactively anticipate and solve problems.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience
  • Experience in the food/hospitality industry is preferred, though not required.
  • Basic culinary skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite & Google apps.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Set up classes
    • Setting up glassware / cocktail kits, etc. Polishing glassware.
    • Prepping food
    • Prepping alcohol (Pulling product from the store, portioning out alcohol, making syrups or infusions)
    • Creating handouts & other print materials
    • Setting up AV (mostly power points)
  • Class assistance
    • Manage volunteers during class
    • Make sure instructor is all set for class and has everything they need
    • Manage registration
    • Deal with any customer service related questions / concerns during the event
    • Troubleshoot problems that may arise during class
    • Manage and help with cleanup of classes
  • Facilities Management
    • Ensure good inventory, and proper maintenance of event space and kitchen.

Compensation this position is : hourly, $15/hr + Application instructions
