  • Category Agriculture
  • Job type Full-Time
Company description

Better Way Farms in Brownsville, VT is set on a beautiful 120 acres of mixed pasture and forest and we are looking to grow in 2019. We are a transitioning organic farm starting its second season growing primarily hemp for CBD oil. We also maintain a flock of pastured laying hens and are starting a large garden of vegetables primarily for our own consumption. In addition, this year we plan to build upon our perennial planting from our small orchard into many different tree fruits and small fruits all over the farm. We also hope to expand our livestock operation, grazing some ruminants on our fields as well. We are committed to sustainable, regenerative practices and working to become self-sufficient and a closed-loop system. We are hiring 1 field crew member in 2019 to work closely with the Farm Manager, though this position could be filled by a couple as well. Free housing on site.

Job description

The field crew member will be involved in all aspects of the farm. The work schedule is variable depending on the workload, ranging from 30-40 hours per week, from May 1st through October 15th with an option to stay through the winter. This position includes seeding, transplanting, cultivating and harvest of 5 acres of hemp along with field irrigation, fencing, greenhouse management and general land maintenance. In addition, there will be livestock chores involving current and future livestock. This is a great opportunity to learn about hemp cultivation and general sustainable agriculture principles while helping to build a budding farm.

Previous experience is not required, but a strong desire to learn and an ability to work outside in all kinds of weather for many hours is necessary. Any experience in carpentry, construction, or agriculture is a big plus. Candidate must be able to lift 50lbs and have a valid driver’s license. Flexibility and some weekends are required. The Farm Manager is willing to train the right person. A beautiful 1 bedroom apt on site available free of charge for the field crew member.
