Weekend Farmers' Market Staff Member Zsa's Ice Cream

  • Date Posted April 19, 2019
  • Location Philadelphia, PA
  • Category Culinary
  • Job type Part-Time
Company description
Zsa’s Ice Cream is a small-batch ice cream manufacturer that produces and hand-packs “Seriously From Scratch,” super-premium ice cream and ice cream sandwiches.  In addition to making all of our ice cream, we also make all of the inclusions that go into our products, along with our own cookies for ice cream sandwiches.  We sell to approx. 50 fine grocers in the greater Philadelphia metro area and are actively in the process of opening our first scoop shop in Summer 2019.

Zsa's is a woman-owned and operated business that was established in 2011.  We refer to ourselves as the "New American Traditional Ice Cream Brand" and like to say that we build our business in a "Seriously From Scratch" fashion, just as we make our ice cream.

While our website is under construction, you can check out everything that we're up to over on Instagram @zsas.
Job description

We’re hiring for a part-time Farmers' Market Staff Person to join our team and represent Zsa's at the 2019 Headhouse Farmers' Market in South Philadelphia. This will primarily be a weekend job of approx. 10-14 hrs./week (from May-October) and is great for a person who loves local food; being outdoors; and sharing a passion for local food and small business with customers.

Job Purpose & Background: For 7 years, Zsa's has been a vendor at the outdoor Headhouse Farmers' Market in South Philly where we sell pints and ice cream sandwiches. At the current time, we do not scoop at the market, so most of our market presence relates to having great customer service; being knowledgeable about our products; making sales; being enthusiastic; and having the ability to work independently and be on time.

Main Tasks Will Include:

**Ongoing training to learn about the Zsa's products so that ingredients; flavor descriptions; and company information can be accurately shared with customers.

**Running market prep errands on Saturday (picking up dry ice and making sure all market supplies are stocked for Sunday morning.)

**Packing and transporting market set-up items and coolers containing ice cream from our Roxborough facility to the Headhouse Market on Sunday mornings and bringing everything back on Sunday afternoons. (Employee will need to have their own vehicle and will be compensated for using it.)

**Setting up table display; menu board; signage prior to market opening on Sunday morning.

**Staffing our table at the market – Greeting customers; offering samples; speaking about the company and product; making either cash or credit card sales.

**Taking post-market inventory and putting away product and supplies.

Future Tasks (based on customer service and sales performance) may include:

**Being given the option of working additional shifts at our Mt. Airy scoop shop.

Characteristics:

**This person will ultimately be a self-starter; outgoing; friendly; engaging; enthusiastic; positive; and be able to work independently and provide excellent customer service.

**They will have an interest in local food and the Philadelphia community, and take an interest in learning about Zsa's products and business.

**They will need to be prompt to unload and set-up and have the Zsa's stand open when the market starts.

**They will need to be able to multi-task if making a sale with one customer and needing to also greet another at the same time.

**They will be honest and trustworthy with money and product and be mindful of their surroundings when setting up and breaking down.

**They must be able to lift at least 30-50 lbs; and, be willing to work outdoors in different weather settings and also at times in our walk-in freezer.

Requirements:

**MUST have both Saturday and Sunday availability. (If multiple applicants have a good fit, we will consider making a few hires so that the weekend schedule can be rotated...we get it...dedicating every weekend to working during the Summer can be hard!)

**MUST have a moderate sized relaible vehicle that can be used to transport supplies and product to the market.

**MUST have a clean driving record and proof of insurance.

**Food safety familiarity preferred.

**Familiarity with local food/farmers' markets; food retail and food service environments a plus.

Work Schedule:

**10-14 hours/week on average from May-October on Saturdays and Sundays.

**Saturday will most likely only require a few hours of work and Sunday's shift will be between 7-8 hours from 8:30 am-4 pm

Compensation:

Compensation is $10/hour plus additional compensation for mileage and using one's own vehicle.  Staff discount and a reasonable amount of complimentary product.

We look forward to getting to know you soon!
