Ice Cream Production Staff Member Zsa's Ice Cream

  • Date Posted April 19, 2019
  • Location Philadelphia, PA
  • Category Culinary / Production
  • Job type Part-Time
Company description
Zsa’s Ice Cream is a small-batch ice cream manufacturer that produces and hand-packs “Seriously From Scratch,” super-premium ice cream and ice cream sandwiches.  In addition to making all of our ice cream, we also make all of the inclusions that go into our products, along with our own cookies for ice cream sandwiches.  We sell to approx. 50 fine grocers in the greater Philadelphia metro area and are actively in the process of opening our first scoop shop in Summer 2019.

Zsa's is a woman-owned and operated business that was established in 2011.  We refer to ourselves as the "New American Traditional Ice Cream Brand" and like to say that we build our business in a "Seriously From Scratch" fashion, just as we make our ice cream.

While our website is under construction, you can check out everything that we're up to over on Instagram @zsas.

We’re hiring for a part-time Ice Cream Production Staff Member to join us in our Manayunk/Roxborough production kitchen for approximate 24-32 hours/week.

Job Purpose: The Ice Cream Production Staff Member will report directly to the Production Manager and work collectively with the rest of the Production Team in executing the tasks on a daily schedule. This position will begin with training; learning; and perfecting daily procedures; and, if the job candidate exceeds with basic tasks and shows an understanding of ice cream processes, they may be given the opportunity to work independently on flavor and recipe development for new products.

**Precise labeling of ice cream packaging (pints; sandwiches; case boxes; bulk tubs)

**Cleaning (dishes, floors, and light equipment)

Additional Tasks may include:

**Measuring & organization of ingredients

**Assisting with baking and preparation of ice cream bases

**Preparation of inclusions for ice cream

Characteristics:

**This person will ultimately be a self-starter and have some understanding of how a busy commercial kitchen works.

**They will need to work quickly, efficiently, and cleanly; to be able to pay attention to detail and instructions; and have the ability to multi-task and manage one's own time if working independently.

**They will be able to learn to pace themselves in order to complete a given task list and be able to find small self-directed tasks (cleaning, labeling) in between the lag time of larger daily projects.

**They will have an enthusiasm for problem solving and ask questions that show interest and which will help them to exceed in their job.

**They will have a positive outlook and be proactive in taking responsibility for their tasks and workspace cleanliness.

**They will be focused on maintaining quality control and food-safety during all steps of the production process.

**They must be able to lift at least 25-50 lbs; and, be willing to work in cool environments.

**While we're able to offer the benefit of a flexible schedule, the right candidate will be available to occassionally work longer/different hours during the busy season and be willing to make up time if they miss a shift.

**This position is based upon manufacturing repetition, so the right candidate will need to be willing and able to do the same tasks during each shift and take pride in figuring out how to become faster and more efficient as they gain practice.

Requirements:

**No specific knowledge of ice cream making is needed, but experience working in a professional kitchen/bakery or food manufacturing environment is required.

**Serve Safe Certification/Philadelphia Food Safety Certificate is desirable.

**Must have consistent & reliable transportation.

**A working knowledge of spreadsheets and group email communications (Gmail; Google Docs; Google Sheets) is preferred.

Work Schedule:

**Hours will generally be between 24-32 hours/week and work days will initially be Tuesday-Friday for training, with the intention of moving towards working independently on Mondays and/or the weekends.

**We are a seasonal business, so while 24-32 hours is an average work week, there may be lighter weeks between December-February and there may be heavier weeks between March-September.

**If, after training and proving that they are trustworthy, efficient, and able to manage their own time, we can offer the benefit of a flexible schedule if the employee requires it.
