Kitchen Position/Cook Hidden River Brewing Company

  • Date Posted April 19, 2019
  • Location Douglassville, PA
  • Category Culinary
  • Job type Full-Time
Company description Hidden River Brewing Co. is located in the haunted 300 year old Historic Brinton Lodge in Douglassville, PA. We brew a constant rotation of creative and unusual small batch beers, and provide an all local-sourced and always changing dinner menu in our cozy quirky pub.

We are intensely committed to supporting our local farmers, cheese makers, butchers, bakers and makers. Besides oils, vinegars and some herbs/spices, everything coming out of our kitchen is sourced locally. From Spring through Fall, we source from a roughly 15-20 mile radius of our pub. In the Winter season, we primarily source from nearby Lancaster County with farms up to 40 miles away.

Because of this commitment to our local producers, our small but tasty menu changes every week. This requires a certain level of creativity and a willingness to explore new ingredients, recipes and ideas every single week! We typically offer a selection of small and shareable plates, salads and sandwiches, all with a focus on high quality, unique dishes and affordable prices.

Our motto is "We Feed You Pennsylvania" and we truly do! Job description We are currently looking for a new addition to our award winning kitchen team. Our small team preps our menu from scratch two days per week (Wednesday & Thursday), and serves that menu 3 nights per week (Thursday, Friday & Saturday). We are looking to add menu service on Wednesday nights and Sunday afternoons, so have a need for additional help in menu prep and service across those five or six days (Tue-Sun).

We work in an open kitchen and work very closely with other non-kitchen staff. During shifts our non-kitchen staff employs an hourly rotation through different stations, so that non-kitchen staff will work the bar, run food, bus tables and do dishes throughout each night. This has created a team-oriented approach in which we all work tightly together. Because of the open-kitchen format, kitchen staff often interact with guests throughout the night. And because of the team-oriented approach, all staff share tips. This results in a more level and equal pay across the entire staff.

Our intense commitment to our local producers, means that our small but tasty menu changes every week. This requires a certain level of creativity and a willingness to explore new ingredients, recipes and ideas every single week! We typically offer a selection of small and shareable plates, salads and sandwiches, all with a focus on high quality, unique dishes and affordable prices

We prefer some experience in a professional kitchen, but will also train the right person. Regardless of experience, you should have some skill in the kitchen. You must have a keen interest in local seasonal cuisine and be flexible and willing to constantly invent new plates! A willingness to cross-train is also a plus, and allows you to pick up an occasional shift on the service side (something different!).

We are a weekend- and evening-oriented business, so you must be willing to work most weekends and nights. The kitchen closes at 9pm and we're almost always finished by 11pm. We only run into the late afternoon-evening on Sundays. We are a busy and high volume kitchen, so you need to be able shift into high gear, stay focused and execute - all while having fun! Compensation this position is : hourly, varies DOE, $12.00 - $25.00 Work visa This employer is willing to sponsor a work visa for international applicants Application instructions
