For more than four decades we have been promoting and selling high quality food products from our homeland, Spain. We are proud to say that throughout these years and to those in the specialty foods industry, the name “Despaña” has come to represent a reliable and respected source for those looking to find authentic flavors and ingredients imported exclusively from Spain.

The majority of our imported items are sold to chefs, purchasing directors, restaurants, catering companies and gourmet stores through our network of select distributors nationwide. In 2006 we began to establish additional food boutiques to offer retail clients the opportunity to shop like a chef and enjoy our specialties at home.

Our chorizo factory and original small retail storefront is still located in the historic district of Jackson Heights, Queens, and our corporate headquarters and warehouse facility for imports/distribution is located in Woodside, Queens.

Job description

Our company is looking for a passionate foodie, and lover of Spanish culture, to be responsible for generating leads and creating sales with new perspective restaurants and markets, while also nurturing and maintaining sales with current clients. You will spend a large amount of your time traveling through the city and checking in on clients, while offering product presentations and sampling to potential clients. Sales representatives will be expected to make 6-8 visits a day, and write up full reports of their interactions.

In order to be successful in this role, Sales Representatives will need to have a deep understanding of the sales process and dynamics, along with superb communication skills. A desire to work in the world of gourmet food is a must, and a background in the food industry is a plus!  

Job Duties:
  • Service existing accounts, obtain orders, and establish new accounts by planning and organizing daily work schedule to call on existing or potential sales outlets and other trade factors.
  • Focus sales efforts by studying existing and potential volume of dealers.
  • Submit orders by referring to price lists and product literature.
  • Keep management informed by submitting activity and results reports, such as daily call reports, weekly work plans, and monthly and annual territory analyses.
  • Monitor competition by gathering current marketplace information on pricing, products, new products, delivery schedules, merchandising techniques, etc.
  • Recommend changes in products, service, and policy by evaluating results and competitive developments.
  • Resolves customer complaints by investigating problems; developing solutions; preparing reports; making recommendations to management.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending Despana events; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed within the Woodside office
  • Must be able to work independently!

Requirements

  • Proven work experience as a sales representative
  • Excellent selling, communication and negotiating skills, along with stellar organization
  • Ability to create and deliver presentations tailored to the audience needs
  • Highly motivated and target driven
  • Proficiency in Spanish
