Job description

Position Overview

An Assistant Manager of Marketing, Merchandising and Events of Poppy's Greengrocer will be a key member of the leadership team responsible for the successful day-to-day operations management of the new 4,000 square foot local greengrocer that features an abundant supply of locally grown products.

 

We are looking for someone that is entrepreneurial by nature, passionate about local food, and a skilled manager with a proven track record of taking responsibility for visual merchandising, marketing, and event sales and management.  The right candidate will be an extraordinary team leader, obsessed with quality, and a customer-focused charmer.

 

This position reports to the General Manager and Culinary Director of Poppy’s Greengrocer.

 

Responsibilities
 

  • Store Opening
  • Play a leading role in all facets of the store opening.
  • Assist in managing the training of store staff members, in collaboration with the General Manager.
  • Merchandise our product assortment and maintain vendor relationships.
      • Establish guidelines and practices for store appearance, merchandising and overall visuals.
      • Develop a 12 month marketing and event calendar
  • Work with Founder and General Manager to implement SOPs, marketing strategy, and best practices.
 
  • Best in class Marketing, Merchandising and Event development
  • Working closely with the Founder and GM to develop and deliver Event calendar
  • Consistently develop innovative Merchandising
  • Lead Floor resets, seasonal displays
  • Develop all seasonal promotions and special products
     
  • General Store Management
    • Take responsibility for day to day store functions and appearance and serve as a leader to hourly staff.
    • Take responsibility for health department inspections, food safety procedures and record-keeping.
    • Facilities Management and Maintenance.
    • Assist in adhering to priorities, metrics and a rhythm of communication with the team, owners and partners.
 
  • Financial Management
    • Work to achieve budgeted sales goals and expense levels. Achieve store profit targets.
    • Motivate all store staff to feel accountable to budget and sales goals by being transparent about store performance and practicing open book management.
    • Work with the Founder and General Manager to monitor store performance and profitability.
    • Have awareness of deviations from budget and take initiative to adjust accordingly to meet goals.
 
  • Team
    • Consistently communicate and support Poppy's Greengrocer mission.
    • Provide leadership to actively build a strong and positive market culture.
    • Provide mentorship to team members.
    • Assist with training, and counseling all team members in a manner that builds and sustains a high performing team and minimizes turnover.
 
  • Communication
    • Maintain collaborative, honest, open and productive working relationship with all store staff, owners, and administrative support team.
    • Model and cultivate effective team communication.
    • Document any incidents relating to team member discipline or policy issues.
 
  • Facility
    • Maintain the highest cleanliness standards for production space, selling space, and office space.
    • Train and manage staff to maintain the highest level of workspace organization and reduce clutter, ensure proper rotation procedures, and eliminate waste/ redundancies.
    • Ensure all equipment is maintained, and serviced appropriately in cooperation with store team.
    • Maintain storewide inventory and storage systems, safety and cleaning schedules and checklists.
    • Ensure the safety and security of all employees and visitors.
 

Qualifications

    • Comfortable with using computer-based systems (excel,  g-suite, etc) and POS system to manage store wide operations
    • Ability to creatively solve problems and take ownership and initiative
    • Knowledge of products, merchandising, and inventory management
    • Capability to give and receive feedback, build relationships, and resolve conflicts
    • Patient and enjoys working with and mentoring people
  • Ability to work rotating shifts Monday through Sunday including holidays
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position
 

Required Work Experience

  • 2+ years of relevant experience as an assistant manager, department manager, or team leader in a grocery or retail food store
  • 2+ years of food service experience
  • 2+ years merchandising, marketing and events experience for a retail or food service related business
  • Design background preferred
  • Involvement with the startup of a retail business a plus
  • Experience making bottom-line decisions in a retail business
  • Facilities and equipment management experience
