Farmers Market seller Middle Georgia Growers Cooperative

  • Date Posted May 17, 2019
  • Location Jeffersonville, GA
  • Category Agriculture
  • Job type Part-Time
Company description Middle Georgia Growers Cooperative is a farmer owned and run food hub.  We represent about a dozen farms in and around the central Georgia region, and work to aggregate and carpool our products to bigger and further away markets.  Unlike other aggregators, every member of the co-op is a farmer first, participating in the co-op for the direct benefit it provides to their farms.

Our member farms produce everything from veggies and corn, eggs, beef, pork, goat, lamb, chicken, fish, blueberries and other fruit, and oils from seed and nut crops.  We are strictly producer-only, there is no reselling within the co-op.  We also primality represent small diversified family farms and natural/organic producers, though this is not a requirement of membership.

The MGGC was founded in 2016 by a group of farmers looking to innovate and address our regional marketing challenges.  We are a small business whose goal is to make our farms thrive, and increase the survivability of our local agriculture community. Job description We are looking for a farmers market stand seller for our two weekend markets, Saturday's in Milledgeville and Sunday's in Atlanta.

The job entails loading and unloading the market van from our home base in Jeffersonville, GA, driving to and from market in the Cooperative's van, doing product inventory after market, setting up/ breaking down and selling at two farmers markets (approximately Sat 7am-2:30pm and Sunday 5am-5pm), and filling out and completing market sales forms.

Requirements:
-Clean driving record (you will be driving the co-op's van to markets)
-Punctual, professional, good customer service
-Trustworthy, responsible, good communication
-Light math/ability to use calculator
-Attention to detail, passion (for farming or food or healthy living)
-willingness to learn about the farmers who make up the co-op and their growing practices
-willingness to learn about the products we sell, farming, food, food safety, and food handling and storage
-Hustle (working farmers markets keep you on your toes!) and ability to engage customers
-Able to lift 50 lbs

We are not expecting applicants to know how to set up or work a farmers market (though experience is wonderful!) or to know about the farms and products we offer. We are looking for applicants who are interested in learning this, who have a great attitude, who will be eager to help and engage our customers, and who can commit to our weekly market schedule. Compensation this position is : hourly, varies DOE, $10.00 - $12.00 Application instructions
