New Britain ROOTS is accepting applications for a Mobile Market Manager to head up New Britain’s Mobile Farmers’ Market. This is a full-time nonexempt position, working 35-40 hours a week Monday-Friday with some Saturdays required. The anticipated start date is Monday June 24th with the markets beginning the first week of July. The position ends November 30th.
The Mobile Market program aims to serve the food-insecure population of New Britain by collaborating with a network of sites located in areas where residents have low-access to healthy food. Market sites include schools, senior housing, health clinics, and the downtown area of New Britain. Eligible customers may participate in our incentive programs that help reduce the cost of fruits and vegetables being sold. The market is also a worksite for City Growers, our youth apprenticeship program.
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Market Manager will be responsible for independently driving the Mobile Market truck to the scheduled sites, setting up tables, displaying produce and interacting with customers to promote healthful eating, explain SNAP, WIC and FMNP benefits, and selling produce. In addition, the Manager is responsible for ordering from our partner farms, data collection, and market promotion. The Manager will also be required to oversee and train our summer youth apprentices in market activities. Assistance for this position will also be provided by a summer intern and a ROOTS AmeriCorps member.
Qualifications
Qualified applicants must have excellent interpersonal skills, facility with numbers, retail sales experience, a valid drivers’ license with a clean driving record. Fluency in Spanish is a plus. Knowledge of seasonal produce is helpful. Some moderately heavy lifting is required during set up and breakdown of market sites. Compensation range is $14.50/hour.
