The Farmer’s Market Associate will set up, staff, and break down our farmer’s market booth at Farmers Markets while providing, friendly, engaging customer service and representing our brand to market shoppers. We are looking for a people person who values community and personal connection. The right candidate will be energized by the bustle of the day, the customer questions, the friendships and camaraderie that come with working the Farmers Market (Not to mention the edible perks!).

 

Working a market requires dynamic people skills, an eye for display, safe food handling, money handling and arithmetic, and the ability to stand outdoors for extended periods in any weather conditions the Bay Area presents to you. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable in many different settings, and can cope with challenges as they come while still carrying out their responsibilities in the booth.

 

The Farmers Market Associate will:

• Stage market supplies and inventory, including packaging fresh bread
• Load, unload and transport booth market supplies and inventory
• Set up and break down tent, tables, displays, etc.
• Answer questions and educate customers about our products
• Sample and sell gluten-free sourdough bread
• Establish great relationships with market organizers, fellow vendors, and customers
• Comply with inspector rules in order to maintain health standards and other certifications
• Assist at other Bread SRSLY Bay Area events (optional)

 

We are looking for someone who:

• Is exceptionally reliable and punctual
• Has great verbal communication skills and loves interacting with customers
• Is enthusiastic about quality food and eager to educate customers about Bread SRSLY
• Has flexibility to work additional events or new markets as opportunities arise

 

Basic Requirements:

• Previous farmer’s market, retail sales, or customer service experience
• Drivers license, clean driving record, and personal vehicle (truck, van, or SUV) for traveling between our West Berkeley kitchen and the Temescal Farmers Market in Oakland
• Ability to work each Sunday between 6:30am-3:00 pm
• Ability to lift and carry at least 50 lbs

 

Extra Credit:

• Food safety training
• Interest in additional part time or even full time work at Bread SRSLY
• In-depth knowledge of gluten-free baking, sourdough, or food allergies
