At 1 Gun Ranch, we farm according to biodynamic principles that produce healthy, flavorful, nutrient-dense food. We sow, plant, and harvest according to the Moon, Sun, and planets. The farm itself is a living organism, and as such, all living things on the farm are reused and recycled back into the land.
We are also a Demeter certified biodynamic farm, ranch, and compost producer. The ranch offers school tours and promotes environmental stewardship for our community. The property includes a number of fruit/citrus trees as well as a diversity of animal life. Job description We are currently looking for a versatile and enthusiastic Farmer Specialist to join our garden team. This position includes working closely with our restaurants and markets on a daily basis. Other aspects of this position include general garden work and property maintenance.
The ideal Farmer & Market Specialist candidate should meet the following requirements:
- At least one year experience with vegetable and fruit growing
- Knowledge of Organic principles and practices (Biodynamic familiarity is a plus)
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and work long hours outdoors
- An understanding of basic statistics and budgeting
- Ability to multitask and be able to work well in a team environment as well as independently
- Excellent time management skills
- A clear and personable communicator
- Operate a motor vehicle and have a personal car for transportation to the farm
A Farmer & Market Specialist at One Gun Ranch will be expected to:
- Deliver fresh produce several days of the week to various markets and restaurants using a company-owned vehicle
- Perform daily tasks at the ranch, including harvesting, post-harvest preparation, planting, seeding, weeding and pest-control, and compost maintenance
- Maintain professional relationships with chefs and produce managers
- Develop new relationships and opportunities to provide One Gun produce and products to the LA area
- Communicate and determine what is seasonally available to markets
- Interact with and lead volunteers, students, and other tour groups
- Interact with animals of all types, including horses, dogs, goats, alpacas and more
