ORGANIZATION AND POSITION:
 
The Trellis Center is a unique organization in Ellensburg, WA that assists adults with developmental disabilities on their organic farm. Their business, Terravine Growers, provides CSA deliveries to customers in the surrounding areas. Trellis also provides hands-on programming that inspires agricultural awareness in students with developmental disabilities through their transitional services. Trellis is seeking an additional year-round, full-time farmer who will share the responsibilities of general farm oversight and labor, infrastructure development, budget, and maintenance of the farm site.
 
JOB DESCRIPTION:
 
Maintain, develop and schedule farm plantings; perform crop planting & harvesting using sustainable practices. The farm consists of greenhouse facilities, hydroponic facilities, outside field and raised bed production areas. Assist in the marketing of a CSA program in its fourth year and other end products (restaurant sales, farmers markets). Purchase/maintain materials, tools and other inventory items required for farm use. Develop and manage organization and inventory of sheds and storage solutions for farm equipment, materials and supplies consistent with visitor safety, security and general well-maintained appearance of the site. Operate and maintain farm equipment. Assist in sustainable farming practices that include preserving and increasing soil health, companion planting, greenhouse growing and harvesting.
 
Act as liaison with farm owner, organizational & agency partners, farming / ranching community. Oversee and maintain site as necessary to create a high-quality work site and learning environment. Provide backup for program staff when needed leading on-site instruction of students, teachers & adult visitors. Collaborate with Program Coordinator to develop and expand educational farm infrastructure; allocate and maintain student planting areas.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
We are looking for a person who is deeply committed to sustainable agriculture and is energized by building relationships with people of all abilities. The farmer will be working closely with the Program Coordinator to determine daily / weekly tasks for participants in the program as well as completing any and all tasks related to farm operations. Desire to work and contribute to an educational farm space. The farmer may develop additional programming to achieve organizational mission and sustainability in collaboration with program staff and the Program Manager.
 
At least one season of growing diverse vegetables in a small farm or school farm setting. Ability to utilize interpersonal & communications skills; computer skills to maintain routine communication, prepare reports, etc. Implement routine recording and tracking; participate in staff meetings and training. Previous work with differently abled individuals is a plus. This position requires the ability to communicate with others, be flexible in job responsibilities, be a team player, be creative, and have a fun attitude.
 
COMPENSATION:
 
Full time, hourly pay. Additional compensation includes vacation and medical benefits along with housing and utilities. 40 / hour week, Monday - Friday with some Saturdays depending on workload and markets.
 
LOCATION:
 
Ellensburg is right in the middle of Washington State, about 100 miles east of Seattle. Located in the eastern foothills of the Cascades, hiking and other outdoor activities are abundant. Home to Central Washington University, Ellensburg has a vibrant arts community and many events to enjoy throughout the year.
 
 
About The Trellis Center

The Trellis Center is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization that fosters a sense of purpose and belonging in teens and adults with developmental disabilities. The Trellis Center provides on-site job support for Terravine Growers, a local organic agriculture business that employs those with developmental disabilities on a farm, as well as various training programs for teens and adults with disabilities. The Trellis Center programs consist of the High School Transitional Program, the Adult Vocational Program, the Adult Recreational Program, and Behavioral Support.
