The evidence is clear: Grains have arrived. GrowNYC Greenmarket bakers use 65,000 pounds of local flour each month. New products made of local grains -- beer, crackers, pasta, spirits – are hitting the markets every day. Farmers are planting hundreds of new acres of grains each year. And millers are upgrading equipment to churn out more and better flours.
GrowNYC Grains is looking for a retail sales representative who is outgoing, enthusiastic, able to provide excellent customer service and conduct basic sales operations at the Grainstand, GrowNYC’s retail outlet for regional grains and beans.
This position reports directly to the Grains Project Operations and Communications Managers.
This position is part-time.
GrowNYC Grains Sales Representative’s Responsibilities
- Set up and maintain the Grainstand at market.
- Maintain and protect inventory of grains products. (I.E. from rain and excessive heat).
- Conduct sales and maintain accurate records.
- Submit sales and market reports to supervisors.
- Command a basic grains literacy, ie, how to use general flour types: all purpose, bread, pastry, etc.
- Communicate key customer interactions to Operations Manager and help develop sales account leads.
- Willingness to learn about products and the role of field crops in agriculture.
Physical Requirements
- This job is outdoors. Staff must be prepared to respond to all kinds of weather.
- This job is physical and requires the ability to repeatedly lift market equipment and product bins, up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work weekends and some holidays. Saturday is our busiest day.
- Early-riser who enjoys working outdoors.
- Interest in regional grains, farming, farmers markets, local agriculture and cooking.
- Enjoys customer service and interacting with the public.
- Retail sales Experience a plus.
- Experience working at a Farmers Market a plus.
- Production baking and culinary experience a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a cargo van in NYC a plus.
