Eat Chic Chocolates is a woman-owned and operated confection brand based in Brooklyn that produces handmade chocolate peanut butter and nut butter cups in delicious flavors like matcha cashew butter, chocolate hazelnut butter, and our signature salted peanut butter and almond butter cups. The chocolates are made with organic ingredients; are naturally vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, and palm oil-free; and one range is refined sugar-free. We primarily sell to wholesale accounts (over 150 specialty stores, cafes, juice bars, and wellness centers around the country) and direct-to-consumer from our website.

Job description

Eat Chic Chocolates is looking for a Production Assistant to start immediately at 30-40 hours per week. We are looking for individuals with a strong attention to detail, ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure, and who take pride in their work and feel a sense of ownership in the company and its success.  A passion for small business, chocolate and/or organic and natural foods is a plus. You must be flexible and able to adapt to the changing priorities of a small business environment with strong seasonal fluctuation, and be willing to work in a commercial kitchen. You will work under the supervision of the head chocolatier to help facilitate the preparation, production, and packaging of large and small volumes of chocolates while ensuring the highest level of quality in our product. You will join a tight-knit team and work with top-of-the line equipment (Selmi, Robot-Coupe) in a music-filled kitchen with a gorgeous view of Manhattan. This is a great opportunity to join a new, rapidly-expanding business and and to grow into a full-time production lead position if you are the right fit.

 

Core responsibilities:

  • Roasting nuts and making nut butter fillings in a Robot-Coupe
  • Using a Selmi tempering machine to temper chocolate
  • Making molded filled chocolates
  • Properly putting away and labeling finished chocolates and ingredients
  • Cleaning kitchen (including dishwashing, equipment cleaning, and floor mopping duties) and maintaining a clean and organized work environment
  • Maintaining production logs

 

Other responsibilities may include:

  • Assist with packaging chocolates for orders
  • Assist in managing ingredient & packaging inventory and supplies
  • Assist in managing orders & deliveries
  • Assist with new flavor & product development
  • Assist with development of training guides and materials

 

Qualifications:

  • A background or demonstrated interest in chocolate, cooking/baking, and/or food and wellness preferred
  • Relevant experience in a commercial bakery, chocolate factory, or other food establishment preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work efficiently while maintaining high quality standards
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality
  • A devotion to cleanliness
  • Professional work ethic and effective communication skills
  • Ability to take direction and follow recipes
  • Ability to work independently, resourcefully, and meet hard deadlines
  • Ability to meet physical demands including extended periods of standing and walking throughout the day
  • Ability to lift 40lbs or more
  • Available to work weekend days if needed

 

Extra credit:

  • Culinary degree or coursework
  • Food Handlers (if you don’t have one yet, we will pay for your certification)
