StarChefs Food & Drinks Editor 

StarChefs is looking for a Food & Drinks Editor to join our small but mighty editorial team. Reporting to the Deputy Editor, this person will cover two cities (or regions) each year, leading a deep dive into each market, meeting with dozens (100+) of chefs, bartenders, somms, and artisans. Critical thinking, developed palate, in depth knowledge of and unbridled passion for the industry is required. Your fieldwork will flow into magazines focusing on each market and help determine winners of StarChefs Rising Stars (national awards given in four different markets annually). You’ll help lead the charge for a series of celebratory Risings Stars events in each city. This editor will also make major contributions to organize and execute StarChefs Congress, a 3-day annual symposium of industry thought leaders. It’s a dream job for an agile editor with a get-it-done attitude. Our audience is industry NOT consumer, so get ready to turbo-charge your food & drink expertise.   


The Role (with room to grow)

  • Support production of four Rising Stars magazines per year, including assigning stories, writing, editing, and coordinating design and photo teams
  • Maintain brand voice across all channels and platforms 
  • Travel and scout for culinary talent for Rising Stars Awards and the International Chefs Congress 10 to 12 weeks a year, interviewing and tasting with 200+ professionals annually
  • Assist in programming StarChefs Congress, including ideation, chef talent selection and management, and editorial production for print (signage and collateral) and web
  • Coordinate with marketing & event team to execute editorial vision & sponsor imperatives
  • Help drive internal marketing, ticket sales, and event promotion 
  • Work on-site at 15+ events per year
 

Requirements

  • Journalism degree and minimum 3 years working for a trade or consumer publication
  • Meticulous note taker 
  • Strong leader with project management skills and experience managing direct reports 
  • Ever expanding pool of industry contacts and writers 
  • Deep knowledge of food and beverage industry 
  • Unstoppable multitasker and problem solver
  • Wide open palate and mind (this is NOT a position for anyone with dietary restrictions)
  • Obsession with spreadsheets and G-Drive organization
  • Time logged within a content management system
  • Personable, professional, and able to lift 40 pounds
  • A deep understanding of hospitality and love for the people who make a career of it  

 

Bonus Round

  • Culinary school degree and/or time working in restaurants
  • Recipe editing experience 
  • Food photography experience 
  • Programming and event experience 
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Suite, in particular InDesign and Photoshop
