  • Date Posted July 17, 2019
  • Location Boston, MA
  • Category Education / Nonprofit
  • Job type Full-Time
Company description

Cooking Matters is helping end childhood hunger by inspiring families to make healthy, affordable food choices. Our programs teach parents and caregivers with limited food budgets to shop for and cook healthy meals. Cooking Matters is a campaign of Share Our Strength, an organization working to end hunger and poverty.  We offer interactive grocery store tours, hands-on cooking classes, smartphone apps and other resources – all free, and run through trusted local community partners. Cooking Matters serves families across the country and is a trusted leader in food skills education, conducting research and supporting partners that reach families in need.

Each year at Cooking Matters Massachusetts, we offer approximately 85 six-week courses and about 275 grocery store tours. Most of our programs focus on adults, specifically parents and caregivers of kids 0-5, who are receiving some form of food assistance. We partner with local community organizations to offer our programs to parents because we believe that every kid should have access to healthy food every day. We know that every parent is doing the best that they can when feeding their children, but we also know that they almost always want to do even BETTER. Parents of very young kids, especially moms, are in a crucial position when it comes to their children’s eating habits and health. They have a powerful influence over family food decisions, from shopping to meal prep, and are often more open to making lasting changes toward a healthier lifestyle. Cooking Matters Massachusetts exists to support parents in making those changes with information and hands-on skills.
