D Acres is Seeking a Farmer! 

 

This person would be responsible for managing our vegetable garden that supplies our farm to table meals, supports the local community with offerings from our farm store and nourishes the farm staff throughout the year. While market vegetables is the focus there will also be livestock and perennial plant responsibilities.

D Acres of New Hampshire is a not-for-profit Permaculture Farm and Educational Homestead located in Dorchester, NH. The Mission of the organization is to function as an educational center that researches, applies and teaches skills of sustainable living and small-scale organic farming. Striving to improve the human relationship to the environment, the center functions as a demonstration farm to role model exemplars of healthy living.

We have over 20 years of experience to draw from to help facilitate a working relationship with this land.  Established garden beds, animal pens and fencing, compost piles, greenhouses, root cellars and tools are on-site to be utilized.  

Our ideal candidate would have a fundamental understanding of permaculture and organic gardening practices. To include, but not be limited to – minimal tillage, crop and animal rotation, intercropping, market production,  vegetable care from seed starting through harvesting, as well as including wild edibles and medicinals as seasonally available.

Good organization, time management and communication skills are a must The farm manager will work closely with the farm chef to coordinate meal planning and timely processing and storing of food for year round use.  The farmer will also utilize and oversee volunteer help such as interns and woofers. A willingness and ability to interact with guests & school groups to occasionally offer educational / learning experiences as they occur is a plus!

Employment could be a year round position or February- October.  

Salary is room and board + $500- $1,000 per month dependent on experience.
