Deputy Director Global Growers Network

  • Date Posted August 05, 2019
  • Location Decatur, GA
  • Category Agriculture / Nonprofit
  • Job type Full-Time
Company description Global Growers Network supports the local people who grow healthy food for our community. We are especially known for our work with farmers who came to this country as legal refugees. Global Growers creates pathways for talented farmers to contribute their agricultural skills to our local food system. We operate a network of farm and garden sites around metro Atlanta to create access to more than 20 acres of land for healthy food production. We also operate a sales enterprise to create access to local food marketplaces. We have sold more than $1 million of fresh produce on behalf of partner farmers. Global Growers is on the cusp of our 10-year anniversary and is ready to mature and transform our service model. Following a devastating flood in April 2019 of our flagship Bamboo Creek Farm that interrupted our sales, we are working to acquire a new farm site and re-launch a new and improved sales enterprise.

Location: Our office is located in Decatur, GA in a nonprofit co-working space operated by the City of Decatur at Legacy Park, a beautiful 77-acre greenspace that is also home to our Decatur’s Kitchen Garden and Orchard. Our current farm and garden sites are located in Decatur, Clarkston, and Stone Mountain.

  Job description

Position Summary: The Deputy Director position is a new role that reports to and partners closely with the Executive Director to chart Global Growers Network’s future growth and strategic response to increasing demand for the organization’s services. The Deputy Director will develop and lead initiatives that contribute to the organization’s overall effectiveness and impact. The Deputy Director will have internal and external facing responsibilities, ranging from fundraising (crafting proposals, soliciting philanthropic donors) and enterprise development (earned income streams) to project management (ensuring high quality service delivery and results-driven work plans) and strategic partnerships (relationship building).

Candidate Vision: Global Growers Network is committed to building a multicultural and multi-lingual organization with the required competencies and perspectives that will allow us to deepen and diversify our impact, especially in serving new Americans and people of color. We especially value candidates with identities that align with the communities we serve (refugees, immigrants, people of color, low-income families). The ideal candidate is a motivated leader and committed team player that is looking for an opportunity to join a rapidly growing organization. The candidate has an eye for innovation and keeps apprised of best practices in the nonprofit and social enterprise sectors, especially in the fields of food culture and agriculture. The candidate’s work is informed by an understanding of the ways in which racial, ethnic, and cultural practices significantly shape how our stakeholders experience the food system as consumers and as growers. The candidate is enthusiastic about bringing creative resource development, entrepreneurial leadership, and an anti-oppression (anti-racist) ethos to an organization that is preparing to launch several new projects.
