Location: Our office is located in Decatur, GA in a nonprofit co-working space operated by the City of Decatur at Legacy Park, a beautiful 77-acre greenspace that is also home to our Decatur’s Kitchen Garden and Orchard. Our current farm and garden sites are located in Decatur, Clarkston, and Stone Mountain.
Job description
Position Summary: The Deputy Director position is a new role that reports to and partners closely with the Executive Director to chart Global Growers Network’s future growth and strategic response to increasing demand for the organization’s services. The Deputy Director will develop and lead initiatives that contribute to the organization’s overall effectiveness and impact. The Deputy Director will have internal and external facing responsibilities, ranging from fundraising (crafting proposals, soliciting philanthropic donors) and enterprise development (earned income streams) to project management (ensuring high quality service delivery and results-driven work plans) and strategic partnerships (relationship building).

Primary Responsibilities
Fundraising and Enterprise Development (60%)

Provide leadership and management for fundraising campaigns and new enterprise (earned income) development by working closely with development, communications, and enterprise staff to drive revenue and manage sustainable growth

Execute strategies outlined in a formal resource development plan that was created in early 2019

Build upon and increase awareness of Global Growers’ established brand of locally grown, high-quality produce and mission-driven farming operations

Craft high quality, focused, and ambitious funding proposals, including private, corporate, and government funding opportunities

Work in partnership with staff and volunteers to ensure that activities related to fundraising, communications, and target engagement are consistent with mission, vision, and values of Global Growers

Work with ED to develop strategic solutions and detailed plans to achieve business and fundraising goals, including budgets to support their implementation

Research prospective donors and partners identified by board members, staff, and volunteers

Build and maintain relationships with a portfolio of current and prospective major donors and partners who are identified through prospect research and by board members, staff, and volunteers

Ensure systems are in place for tracking stakeholder and donor participation, identification, cultivation, stewardship, and volunteer activities
Project Management and Administration (20%)

Work closely with Finance & Operations Manager, Programs team, and Enterprise team to streamline and optimize internal systems for planning, implementing, and reporting, with an eye towards future needs and budget realities

Improve systems for collecting and analyzing data and feedback from beneficiaries to be used for strategic decision-making and storytelling

Support development of project budgets and financial reporting

Ensure that projects are delivered on time and with high quality service provided to program stakeholders, beneficiaries, and customers
Strategy and Leadership (20%)

Contribute to short-term and long-term strategy development as a thought partner to the ED.

Develop thought leadership around specific topics or emerging practice areas

Partner with ED on essential internal leadership activities (HR, communications, team-building activities)

Serve as a mentor, resource, and approachable sounding board to guide the success of our staff team

Conduct performance coaching and guide professional development activities with staff team
Qualifications and Experience: Work, volunteer, academic, and other life experiences are all relevant.

High emotional intelligence, able to easily develop deep, trusting relationships with diverse individuals from many different backgrounds

Flexibility and adaptability, able to shift communication and consulting styles to fit the needs of a wide range of cultures, people, and organizations

Comfort with uncertainty, learning on the go, while keeping the big picture and strategic goals in mind

Broad understanding of local food and farming systems and opportunities to strengthen the sector and our role in it

Open to working some nights and weekends as needed, with advance notice

Access to consistent transportation to be able to travel between GGN sites and to offsite meetings

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in fundraising, account management, and donor relations (GGN may consider analogous experience in mission-driven business/for-profit environments, though a firm understanding of resource development in a nonprofit context is essential)

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a management/leadership capacity with demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills

Superior written communication skills, with experience in crafting proposals, case statements, and/or grant applications

Minimum of 5 years’ experience with program management, including results-driven design strategy, management tools, and evaluation/impact frameworks

High level of comfort and experience with technology; prior experience working with a CRM database and high-degree of comfort with new software; Salesforce experience a plus
