Company description Springdale Farm is a fourth generation family dairy farm in beautiful Mid-Coast Maine.  We milk 110 Jersey and Guernsey cows who are rotationally grazed in season.  Over the last 10 years we have been on a mission to diversify, selling beef, rose veal and pork at local farmers markets.  In 2015, after years of planning, we started Springdale Farm Creamery, making our beautiful cows' milk into cheese. 

  Job description
We are in the process of going through a significant expansion and are in need of a cheesemaker. We make a variety of cheeses currently, mostly fresh and soft-ripened, but are expanding into hard/aged cheeses. Must be a motivated individual who is a self starter and willing to take on challenges independently. Must be analytical thinker, extremely detail oriented, and be able to work efficiently without compromising quality. Ideally we wish to hire an experienced individual who will share insights and ideas as we grow our creamery.  We would consider an applicant with a strong desire to make cheese and a background in either science, culinary or other food processing/manufacturing fields.
 


Responsibilities will include:

-All aspects of making and ageing cheeses

-Assistance in developing cheesemaking processes in a new creamery space

-Knowledge of dairy sanitation and protocols

-Detailed record keeping

-Occasional sales duties at events and farmers markets

-Must be able to lift 50+ lbs
 

We are actively involved in the Maine Cheese Guild which is an amazing resource for cheesemakers. There will be continued opportunity to participate in cheesemaking and sanitation workshops put on by the Guild.

Compensation this position is : hourly, $15/hr + Application instructions
